"Charlie and the chocolate factory" used somwhere around 300,000 gallons of chocolate for the river, the falls, and various chocolate confections.

Who is your favorite chocolatier? Who is your Willie Wanka?

Mine is Ghiradelli out of San Fran.

Hershey chocolate bars,
Nestle Chocolate Milk, only the kind that you spoon in and mix with milk so that you have the little choclate crunchies on top to eat/drink first ;)

Oh, no, no, no. I'm no expert on account that I'm not a chocoholic or anything (I don't even eat chocolate too often) but American made (even if they say it's imported) is NASTY compared to real European chocolate! Galaxy bars? Mmmmm. American chocolate is toooooo waxy. Guatamalan hot chocolate is the best in the world if you like that sort of thing, I do! ;)

For everyday chocolate, almost any milk chocolate.

When money isn't an issue or for a special treat? Domori or Amedei. Hands down.

What...no one likes Lindt?

Personnally, I think Hershey's is ok in extreme moderation - like a 1/4 kiss worth...it's just...filmy on its own. Now, if you add stuff to it, it's ok (I like Reese's, and I think they are related to Hershey's).

Of course, Godiva is owned by M&M/Mars, so it's all relative.

Went to Hershey, PA. last week, and had a good time. We did the Chocolate World attraction and learned a lot about chocolate, Hershey, and old Milton. Came home with about 20 lbs of chocolate. For me its Dark or Semi-sweet chocolate. Also went to Wilbur Chocolates about an hour from Hershey, and found they were making the Wilbur Budd, about 20 years before the Hershey Kiss. So we had to buy more chocolate there. Here are a couple pics.

I like El Rey chocolate has some nice unique undertones. Very good in recipies or on it's own.

Guittard also makes excellent chocolate; widely used by bakeries and confectioners. Of course, in the East Bay, we have an enclave of chocolate specialists, including one in my neighborhood:

Lindt from Switzerland is good too!

Take it from a girl who KNOWS her chocolate -- Green & Black's 70% dark chocolate is to die for. Made is Italy, it's the best around.

who cares?????? :) any chocolate is good chocolate. well, that is not entirely true.

The best I've ever had was made in Switzerland. Have no idea what brand or anythng. It was heavenly.

The worst was made in Moscow. The interpreters told us (in all sincerity), "Russian chocolate is the best. Better than anything." So, I bought some. oh man, talk about rubles wasted.

The worst is when the powers that be add flavours to the chocolate ....

A friend of mine was in Japan and accidently bought a chocolate bar that was wasabi flavoured. Since it's on the market I guess somebody likes it.

I think they use Guittard for their raw materials--I think it's mentioned int he article I cited below. My mom worked for See's when she was a teenager ... and lives about three miles from their factory now.
