Hi I am using Nikon d70s. I have a question about battery charging process.
Let my battery is fully charged. But after taking around 200 picture the camera LCD is still showing that battery is full charged. But I have an assignment on next day and I am scaring about the battery life.
Now, my question is
Can I charge my battery when it is showing full bars in LCD after taking around 200+ or more picture? Or is it bad for my battery to charge before fully discharge?

If you know pls help me.

Thank you.

It is best not to discharge Lithium battery. Keep charge as full as possible all the time. Recharge as often as you like. Same goes for lead battery used in cars.

It is opposite to other types of batteries that best perform if discharged completely.

And buy some extra batteries.

I bought some no-name batteries off Ebay for my D70. They work as good as the Nikon and I always have 2 extra charged batteries. (2 batteries for $25 shipped!)

Here is a good discussion of lithium ion battery life, including storage and charging strategies to maximize life.

I,ve safely shot 700+ shots on one charge and I probably coud've went for more... but a spare battery is a must... just in case you forget to charge it!! :-P

I recently purchased a second battery for my Nikon. I had a 4 day event and didn't want to be caught short without a charged battery. I took 1300+ shots over those 4 days and never changed the battery. Display showed 3/4 full. Two weeks later, went to shoot photo's on July 4th, using same battery. Took about 40 shots and noticed battery indicator was low. Switched to the spare battery and all was good. I also believe you could recharge your battery whenever you want, but unless you have taken lots of shots, or are going to take lots of shots, it probably isn't necessary. I think buying a spare battery gives you that peace of mind so you don't have to worry about it. Worth the money!

my experience is the same as 2Shay's. I've shot close to a thousand shots on one charge, over three weeks. I always have two extra batteries with me though. You know how it goes, the battery will always be there for you, until you actually NEED it.

Kind of like some women - but that's another thread...

So this says Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Should I be storing mine in the fridge?

No need... you can see by the chart that going from room temperature (25°C) to 0°C ther is almost no difference after one year. You would never notice the difference in lifetime, the variability between individual batteries is probably greater.

Again another post for the amazing longetivity of the Nikon battery life.......except this past weekend I actually used my back-up battery.

To each his/her own, but with the D70, I cannot imagine a need for more than one spare (fully charged). That said, I keep keep several (8-12) backup AA's for my SB-600.
