WHat the hell's marco? I'm new at this whole digital camera stuff. Help.

That's MACRO!! It's a setting on your camera so that you can take a picture of something very close to your lens. Like within an inch even. Check your camera's instruction book. It will tell you all about it.

well my camera's simple, doesn't have a macro setting. So i'm going to take a picture, close up, will that suffice?

That'll do. The point is just to get a very detailed, close picture.

Just an aside. Long before digital cameras cost less than $100,000 a piece good old analog cameras had macro capicity. I have a couple of macro zoom lenses that I still use with my trusty old Canon AE-1 bodies.
