Did something very different for me, seems it is paying off. No complaints here.

The challenge is about 20 hours old now, and mine has fallen steadily all day. I had hoped for 5.5 to 6 on this one, and the first time I checked this morning I was sitting at about 5.7 with 35 or so votes. Ever since, I have regretted hitting the update button each and every time! Maybe it will turn around, but for now here's how I stand:

So this basically means a 5????? DUHHHH?

Well it was better than mine on this scale. I guess I got a 4. What exactly is "sujective affinity?" Score has taken a nose dive this afternoon.

You received one of those too huh? I guess this person means if the subject is something he/she likes. I got a BIG 0 for subject affinity. I guess I just didn't please him/her :) If it has a circle in it then it FITS the challenge. Mine had a circle yet I got a 1/2 for it as well. Can anyone explain this mystery???

In this voter's defense.... If you click on their profile you will see an explanation of how they choose to valuate images. It is rational and reasonable. And (imo) DOES teach. You can see in a glance what part of the image the voter did or did not like by the breakdown. That is a lot better than just leaving a random number and moving on. I commend anyone who puts this much thought into their voting.

I already checked. No explanation and only two images. Maybe he copied it from someone else.

Then it isn't the same voter who gave that brokendown vote for my image. So yes, was probably a "borrowed" scale. Still, it requires thought and so I'm for it.

I started with 6.5 then from last night I got some WOW messages from voters, I got 3 of 10s, 2 of 9s and one 8.
And now my score is 6.2
???
Meaning someone rated me reallllly bad.

Definitely people that gives 1s never leave a message.
It will be cool if, at the end of every challenge we can see the users name and their vote.

I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT MOST OF THE USERS THAT GIVE 1s AND 2s FOR NO REASON WILL STOP DOING THIS IF THEIR NAME WILL BE REVEALED AT THE END OF THE CHALLENGE.

Ok, its early morning for me so take that into consideration...Overnight my score went from a consisitent 6.2 to 5.7 this am...looking at the comments, it seems to be down to a bunch of newly registered, voters with 0 or 1 challenge entry. The big fat 0/2 I got for affinity really made my morning. These voters are obviously giants in the field of photography and I bow to their genius...

Funny...I was just looking at some porcupine pics! Got it. How was vacation?

Do I have to vote for thousands of pictures to put my post here ?

Or are you afraid of revealing users name ????

Yeah I have a few pics but If I look at your pictures, I did better than you.

Vacation were very cool, camping and not doing anything but some photography and beer drinking. Now, I'm back home, still on vacation... going back to work next tuesday. :(

My post has nothing to do with fear, I am not afraid of anything I can think of. But it does have everything to do with attitude, yours I am afraid.

And for the record:

Very well done! Nice image.
Photographer found comment helpful.

I just think it is pretty low to bitch about how someone voted on your image - expressing THEIR opinion - when you yourself have not voted on a SINGLE image in ANY challenge. Pretty self centered and attitudinal if you ask me. My comment above was left on your Metal entry.

Mircea,

The point is not that you doing better than others, but that you mention that you are saying and I'm quoting "I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT MOST OF THE USERS THAT GIVE 1s AND 2s FOR NO REASON WILL STOP DOING THIS IF THEIR NAME WILL BE REVEALED AT THE END OF THE CHALLENGE. "

And while you say something like this, you have a profile that mention that you have given 0 vote so far.... how can you blame peoples voting when you don't even do it yourself?

Still drinking beer I hope! Kidding. Glad you had a good time. Obviously we are between edits here in the synchronization of posts. Amusing to say the least!

Mine has done the same...I started getting frustrated too..then I realized what I was doing..I often seem to appreciate some shots that don't finish at the top, and have no problem with that..and now it seemed that the votes were defining my work.I stopped and smiled and realized that I still like my shot, and the score shouldn't change that..someone else has listed it as a favourite, so maybe there are only 2..and that's ok..so don't get too frustrated, and just enjoy your shot, it sounds like you are proud of it.

Thanks Robert, you've taken the edge off my frustration...to be honest it's the comments (rather than the score) from people who have never entered a challenge that annoy me and the cold, robotic, impersonal 1/2 colour/contrast, 1/2 meets the challenge..like I'm back at school. I'd rather a comment why...

"My post has nothing to do with fear, I am not afraid of anything I can think of. But it does have everything to do with attitude, yours I am afraid."
-----------------------------------
So...you are afraid of something.
:)
Jut kidding...no offense please!

In my first post I just wanted to tell that lots of people receives lots of 1s and 2s for no reason.
Are these kind of voters here ? Yes...they are!

If you look into the challenge history you will see lots of amazing pictures that received lots of 1s and 2s.
If you spend a bit of time and make some small calculations you will see that some of the users lost the ribbon because they've got meaningless 1s and 2s.

I just wanted to find a way so that our work will be fairly judged.
People put a lot of passion and spend a lot of time for their pictures. They deserve better.

We all receive 1 and 2 votes. So what. Take the time to vote/comment yourself and maybe you can appreciate the process those of us that do take that time go through. It might help your understanding of the process and appreciate the good votes you do get a bit more and separate the ones you don't appreciate as much with more indifference.

Focus on the comments that help..I often find myself laughing at some of the more ridiculous ones..and sometimes people point out things (good and bad) that i didn't see. I know people that love certain movies I hate-usually I just don't like the same things as them. So I can't expect to get comments on my shots that i find helpful all the time..and again that's ok. And believe me I try to remind myself this all the time..it is easy to get caught up in the votes and comments, and all the other stats..I look forward to seeing which one is your shot..all the best.
