My girlfriends father has to buy a digital camera for business and personal right away before Tuesday May 13th. He looked at Costco at Olympus C-50, 5.0 Mega Pixel, 12x2 zoom, auto connect ESB, 32 MB xD picture card (upgradeable I think), quicktime movie, lithium ion battery, remote control, $569.99. Any suggestions? The camera needs to be able to deliver good pictures from an office photo printer and within a text engineering report.

Maybe he should try Canon G3 or Canon 10D.

Also look at the S602 (and Canon 10D is probably out of the price range if you're asking about a $600 cam, not sure what the G3 runs).

not sure of price but the g3 is only 4mp where the olympus runs 5mp... anyone else offer any suggestions and or reasons on which to get? I was thinking for his needs one like mine would be fine and about $100 cheaper I have to go to the store with him tomorrow afternoon... thoughts, suggestions, and ideas are most welcome

I've had several Olympus cameras and I've loved every single one of them. You won't be disappointed. Have you looked at the reviews at dpreview??

The S602 is really nice and does a lot, it's in the price range of $500 to $600. Only reason I didn't get it was the grip on it didn't fit my hand and made it awkward for me to hold.

Get a Canon G3. Megapixels don't count for true resolution or image quality when the difference is only one megapixel. Besides, do you really want to spend 3 times as much as Compact Flash users spend on Olympus proprietary storage media?

well we looked today and he was really close to buying the Canon S50 powershot... warranty was a concern though for him since he is using the camera to take shots in industrial factories for engineering reports... the store the Olympus was at offered him a lifetime warranty and satisfaction guarantee... the camera was incredibly compact... if he ever doesnt like it he can take it back... the S50 had a warranty you could buy.. 5 years $130... so since he didnt have to pay extra for the warranty, and the Oly-C50 will meet his particular needs I told him to get the olympus... he saved $200 in warranty and price differnce... plus he got a 256k xd media card for $125... (damn those things are so tiny! like a postage stamp) making a long story short, the Olympus C50 was $569 with a lifetime warranty.. the
Canon S50 was $599 plus $150 for a 5 Year warranty... the canon might have better color saturation, but for the price and what he needs it for, I thought it was the best decision.... but thanks for all the input everyone!!

I looked at the C50 yesterday -- about half the size of mine with twice the resolution (and then some). Looks like a good deal -- I've been happy with the photo quality and durability of my Olympus so far...
