I took a bunch of shots as well, but I don't have photo editing software on this machine to be able to do so without making everyone look at the full size images. I set up with my kit lens as it's my widest angle, set the aperture to wide open, and used bulb and random times depending on the fireworks themselves. Most turned out OK. I had a bunch that weren't in focus. Does anyone have any suggestions for setting focus, as it's nearly impossible to tell focus off of the tiny little LCD?

I have a client that I shoot architecture for - one of the shots he wants is the stadium where they had the fireworks. Here's the two that I like - haven't heard from him yet.

Any comments are welcome.

I took about 80 fireworks shots and most of them were out of focus and looked goofy.

Here are two of the better ones....

This was my favorite shot. I liked the color & the people in it. The little girl in the corner was cute. This was just one of those noise makers.

The second shot is better... although both seem slightly over exposed.

I adjusted the contrast (+20) and brightness (-10)... it seems to make it more interesting, but of course, that is just my opinion.

Good luck with your client.

Gorgeous shots.. I'm thinking that I should have had a smaller aperature myself.. I shot at f/11 and probably would have benefitted from f/22.. but read that f/11 was optimal.

Lake Zurich, Illinois 2005

used bulb mode on a tripod, mostly at f/22, but I experimented with larger apertures as well. I also used a card over the lens between some bursts to cut down on ambient light.
