OK, my apologies in advance if this question is too naive:

I've read that most digital cameras come with an IR filter built in, as IR does affect the digital sensor. The article that made that assessment said nothing about wither UV affects digital sensors. So my stupid question:

I've been keeping a 58mm UV filter on the end of my camera for a few years, as I understand UV is more of an issue at sea level (I'm in San Diego). Does this even apply to digital? Are there any particular pros and cons to doing this?

The coatings that are on modern lenses already remove more UV than the filter will. So the filter is not really doing anything for you in terms of eliminating UV. It just adds another layer of glass.

i agree with Spazmo99, despite that fact i still leave a UV filter on my lenses - help keep dirt and scratches off the glass..

Having a protective filter may hurt a lot more than it helps...

Filter Flare Factor

If you always have a filter on your lens, then you should read this and know what you're sacrificing every time you press the shutter.
