Try using the camera's self timer, if it has one.

if you are experiencing camera shake on a tripod with a remote or with the timer, i suppose that wind or ground vibration is probably your issue. I can't imagine any other source of shake...

Are you talking about the shake warning symbol (Fuji does this too)? That's just a thing to point out that at that shutter speed/aperture combination you should be careful about camera shake, so using the tripod should prevent it.

Okay, I too have the exact same problem. I have no idea how to fix it though. I don't even know what my aperture speed is, I even tried to look it up...I don't get it. Soooo, I'm just going to keep checking this thread. Maybe someone can help all us walking earthquakes a hand :)

I sent some pics to John and he agrees that is shake or movement of object? So tonight I put my camera on the tripod tightened every knob and without the flash and flouresent lights on I still excerience camera shake and I even used self timer with remote? I know others have had the same problem with different models than mine too? I just cant seem to shake the shake? Lol

Might be unrelated, but try some brighter lighting? I'm grasping here, but perhaps it's not camera shake, but lack of focus due to not enough light? (I'm just responding to your statement of flash and flourescent lights not being on... that's all.)

It's most likely motion blur and not camera shake... your plant is moving during the exposure... my best guess...

05/07/2003 11:41:22 PM · #15
i think you also may be too close to the subject with your camera... back up a little and try to use a little zoom to compose...
05/07/2003 11:47:16 PM · #16
i tried that this evening and although not as bad i was alone in the room and the pic your taking about its a house plant indoors with no window open and the vent was even closed? So movement of the object ? I dunno could it be the tripod is on carpet? Although its a hard carpet meaning not shag its tight . I will try it on tile?
Thanks for your help ! Paul

I had that same thing happening on my tripod that I had, but it was the tripods fault. My camera was way to heavy for the tripod and even though it was tightened all the way, it would still ever so slightly move. I don't know what's going on with yours Paul, I hope you can get it to stop.

im starting to think thats it lousy tripod vivitar vpt-20. I may take camera into a store and try a better tripod?

Try just setting the camera on a table or something, or on a beanbag, and shoot under the same conditions for comparison. Composition is not important, but matching the other conditions should match as closely as possible.

If you have any kind of heat source (lights?) you might get enough air convection to blur the image slightly (so chill out?).

Paul im in Canada You know that? How much more do you want me to chill out? I have my jean jacket on inside! LOL thanks though i will give it a try.

Yeah, I know about Canada...that was supposed to have sarcastic tags around it. I've been to Canada quite a few times, but never too far north or in really bad weather. I'd like to go again sometime...

On camera shake: There is a technique to pressing the shutter realease that might help. Hold your breath and slowly press the shutter button and keep pressing it until it goes no further. Keep pressure on the button until the exposure is well past, then release your finger (and your breath). The steadiness of the camera depends not only on the size and weight of the tripod but also on the type of tripod screw into the camera. American tripods use 1'4" thread, European use ~3/8" (stronger). Holding your breath also works almost as well without a tripod. The selftimer is a good alternative, but you won't know exactly when it goes off.

How HEAVy is the tripod?

If the tripod isn't at least 5 lbs, you will get shakes. Even if it's 7 lbs like mine Bogen tripod with head, i still get shakes on CARPET (if you step on the carpet, it'll have shakes).

Other possibility could be shutter movement or internal camera movement. Carpet is just bad, you will not get stability with carpet. You will have bad results if you have a really light tripod like those you can buy from Bestbuy.

Are you saying that the camera shake indicator is coming up when you're shooting, or are the complaints centered around the resulting shots significantly blurry? The camera shake icon will come up on my camera if there is the *possibility* of hand shake when taking the picture, and not that the camera is actually shaking. It will come up even if it's on a tripod. Is this the concern?

Roger, try that same setup with some subjece that can't possibly move to determine if your tripod is moving or if it's the subject...
