**FREE COMMENTS***

I didn't feel like getting abusive pm's this week commenting truthfully on pictures i scored low in the darkness challenge. So i didn't comment on low scoring photos for Metal.
But now i will make it up to you.

If you truely want feedback on what this one meager person voted on your image, and why - post your metal thumb and i will comment. I wont be (intentionally) hurtful, but i will tell you the honest truth, so no hearts on our sleaves, and no more nasty PM's!

You can put "the bag" on for doing comments during the challenge. Works wonderfully well. Most people don't bother to send a pm after the voting is over for some reason. Anyway. If you like to give honest feedback, I would suggest that because it's a rare person that tries to give constructive critiques, and I for one, need and appreciate it. Unfortunately, I didn't enter metal. I do have one in obsolete. Can you go comment on it?

I often ask questions which i wouldnt mind having answered during the challenge - because sometimes i'm a block head! But i have a feeling some people are just hateful haha.
I will try to use my psychic powers to find your obsolete pic :D

okay - i've commented on everyone that has asked. Anyone else looking for comments on thier metal??
06/29/2005 02:04:53 PM · #15
I put an apology on my profile page and they read that before they PM me. Surprisingly I get very few negative PMs and a lot of thanks for the feedback PMs since I've done that.

Note: I comment on every image I vote less then a 4.

If you're still rarin' to go with comments, my metal entry could use another comment. I'm going to add my own critique as well.

I added this comment to your picture...

Overall this is a fine image. Composition is good and B&W works well. General technical quality is well above average and tonal range especially good.

It is likely that some reviewers will not find as strong a connection to the challenge topic as they expect and will vote it lower.

Here are two technical items for your consideration...

The lure on the table is in the best focus and the reel in the foreground is soft focused. This image would benefit if everything in the frame is in sharp focus. There are two things you can do to accomplish this. One is to shoot at a higher f/stop and longer exposure time for greater depth of field with your camera mounted on a tripod. The other is to change the central focus from the lure to a point closer to the reel so that depth of field (DOF) on both sides of that point will include both reel and lure in sharp focus. Combining both works best.

The other item is lighting balance. The image is dark on the left side of the frame. That acts as a distraction that takes away from this fine composition. Reshooting with additional lighting in that area and/or fixing lighting in that area in post processing will better balance the image.
