STOP WITH THE TIRED OLD REHASHING ALREADY!!!

I'm tired of "Challenge Name I-IX"

however, to my chagrin, the thread is only about "blah blah blah no bugs and flowers" again :)

Yeh - Why do people have to complain about entries Before a challenge?
Whilst I take no notice of the moaning there are some people on this site that may well be put off by these threads - to them I say - publish and be damned!!
Take the photo YOU want to NOT what OTHERS want.

Bugs and flowers are the true, tried, time tested recipe for sucess in the macro challenges. Spray some water drops on there and then you'll really have a winning combination.

If someone thinks of something more original than water drops, bugs, or flowers and manages to get a great shot of it then congrats to them. Otherwise this is going to be another challenge where a bug/flower/water drop wins.

just my 2 cents

I can guarantee that if I submitted a nice macro of a flower with water drops on it, it would do a 5.2... and the top 3 macros would be of geodes or something.

I thought you were talking about me. But if so it would be around 4.8

What we need is a macro of some cheesecake, with a rubber ducky and green grapes in the background. In the forground, there needs to be some water drops and the backdrop needs to be blue.

That would be new and unique...

Fascinating subject, mediocre shot, 5ish finish I'd wager.

My 2 cents worth is ....... Take the best photo you can that fits the challenge and may the best man/woman win :) I know at times we all get tired of bugs, kids, flowers yada yada
However, you can't control others creative visions soooo with that said get out the cameras and blow somebodies mind with your own marco vision !

For some peaple it'll be there first time taking macros of bugs/flowers/water and they have the right to do so without have people blablblabing abot what they like and dislike.

I just started going to the cottage and they're bugs and flowers everywhere so expect one of those from me!!! .... and If I win, just call me "macro Yaniko!! ;-) LOL!! It doesn't sound as nice as "macro Jacko" but.... ;-)

Cmon ppl, the world is so big and full of details! Opportunities are around u!
If a bug has got to be the winner shot, make it an unique bug shot! If it has to be a flower, make it THE flower shot!
Small is good!

This is along the lines of what I was going to say. Fortunately this forum has a nice mix of experienced and inexperienced photographers. Newbies are often looking at photography as though through the eyes of a child. Just because you've already seen something forty-eleven times doesn't mean it isn't new and fascinating to someone who hasn't.

It occurs to me that everyone has an idea of something that has been overdone, and if we ruled out every one of those things we would be left with the subjects that appeal to a very few (if any) people.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I view this site as a "commune" of sorts, where everyone has something to contribute and something to learn. If you are depending solely on your subject matter to win challenges, you will not get far. It's the approach, technique and creativity that make an outstanding image.

I have learned a lot about my camera and lighting by taking macros of bugs and flowers. And I'm not jaded enough to stop admiring good photographs of common subjects by other photographers. I do wonder how many aspiring photographers are put off of this site because of the negative posts that pop up during every challenge.

Perhaps the people who think they are too good for this site could start a spin-off called "Outsider DPC". Otherwise, look for me to keep taking pictures of flowers, bugs, birds, water, clouds, mountains, fruit, nudes, children, lighting bolts, animals and any other common subject matter that so inspires me to improve my photography.

Or, you could just take a super fabulous picture of a flower or a bug... Any good picture would do!

Seems the granular challenge was a good shot at non flower macros.. try suggesting topics ie.. mechanical macro, non-organic macro etc instead of bashing topics people enjoy and may well be working a niche in which are allowed in the current challenge. Bring on the bugs.... Up with flowers... It's about learning here, not stifling.
