So I built a light tent using pvc and a bedsheet...
The results were not half bad IMHO...

Take a look and tell me what you think.

Looking good. I made myself one too for some jewelery shots for a friend.
Just a couple of questions.
Would you maybe care to share a pic of the light setup?
What do you use as a base for the objects?
Does your camera give the correct white-balance, or do you fix it in post?

Have fun :)

I will gladly post a pic of the setup.
It is kinda based on this outstanding setup that I found.

Light Tent
Note I did NOT cement the PVC ... I figured if I needed to change dimentions it would be easier if I didn't

The light setup changed around a bit as I tried for different effects.

The ones with the black backgrounds were done with 75 watt spots with the camera set for incandescent... the white ones were shot using my Photogenic strobes at 50% through the doubled up sheet.

The base (backgrounds) are 59 cent construction paper...but I really dont like the color consistancy...had to do a bit of cleanup in post.

I've heard of using muslin for a backdrop. Has anyone used this material, and how does it look?

That is what I was going to try...

Thanks for the info. Mine is remarkably similar, even though I did not know of this website to base my plans off of. Only major difference my good wife gave the tent part one look and sewed me a proper setup :)

I used black felt for the black background, and put my the jewelery on a suspended glass plane for reflections.

The only problem with suspended glass is double sided reflections, which makes it look out of focus.

What should one use to prevent this? Something black, solid and reflective, like a big wet block of liquorice ?

I would hit the last two images in your series, red vase and football, with a little Unsharp Mask. Other then that, the images are great and I now have a nice little project to work on!

Thanks.

LoL...the "vase" is about 2 inches tall ... it is some kind of Egyptian oil thingie as are the other extreamly fragile glass thingies. in the 2nd image.
