My contri. on the Metal Challenge has [removed identifying details]I have made this comment before: The photos are to small (so i think).
Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but the pictures don't look that clear/sharp/nice when they can only be 150Kb.(640x480 etc.)
So why use an 8MegaPixel camera?
More people feel that way?
The site is nice, and so are the challenges.cheers.

It has been suggested before. I believe that the size is fine the way it is. It levels the playing field.

plus i can't imagine how much more they'd have to allow on their server for larger challenge entries.

Please don't identify your entry during voting. Making general comments if fine.

640 x 480 expecially in portrait mode allows you to view the entire image without scrolling.

150k keeps the size relatively small so dial-up users have a chance at getting to vote.

Can you imagine 500 800 x 800 images at say 200k each on a 56 k modem? I don't think I'd even get through 20%, never mind 100 %.

Also, these are web size pictures. 8mp gives you lots of benefits for prints. If you don't want to do prints then why 8 mp?

150kb should allow plenty of resolution for a sharp, detailed image.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/344/thumb/183324.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/344/thumb/183324.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/106/thumb/24559.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/106/thumb/24559.jpg', '/') + 1) . If you use the "Save for Web" option in photoshop, you get a better image for the 150KB because it strips the metadata.

56K modem? prints? the more pixels the better the quality, i dont have to explain that, right?
I make prints to, that not the only reason to get an good camera, agree?
I don't know anyone with an 56K modem, 800x600 is an nice resulution to.
And i had to identify myself to make sure that people see the right thing, i had this problem with the Dicisions Challenge as wel.
People thought there was a smudge on the knife, it was the brand-name of the knife, the picture looks clear when bigger, you got to agree on that part.

I would not mind seeing something like 800x600 250k be the new standard. That would not be too crazy would it?

And even better, from 2 months ago - went to 5 pages...

sounds like you only use the 8mpixel for here, in which case sure why have it? I'm sure there are many that would trade their camera for yours.

I use high-speed connection and that would be no problem for me. But I think raising the resolution and size could become a problem to some if not most of the dial-up users it may reduce voting. Not sure but I feel it could and that maybe why DPC (other than server space) has not raised it.
