I finally encountered one of those mythical creatures I've been reading about, The Troll. My latest entry got a "Huh?" in the comments section.
Such a brilliant and thought provoking critique. I'm absolutely awe struck with the depth and intelligence behind such a well thought out comment and value greatly their helpful and insightful feedback.

What do you feed Trolls anyway? Are we allowed to keep them? Are they house broken?

Any feedback on the care and tending of the poor creatures would be helpful.

From experience I find that, while the most logical, ignoring them isn't half as much fun as baiting them.

OTOH, I find that for whatever reason, maybe because photography isn't my first love or what-have-you, the one (??) troll comment I've received thus far doesn't seem to bother me.

I will be looking forward to seeing what that person subbed for the challenge, if anything. That also kind of brings me to an observation I've made over the past couple of days: Most ppl who leave troll-like comments have seldom, if ever subbed a picture. Wonder why that is?

I've actually been looking forward to my first Troll(s). I tend to be thin skinned and thought that by opening my photos up to critique I would be able to develop my photographic skills and thicken the skin a bit while doing so. Trolling for Trolls might be fun also but I kinda' feel sorry for them at times. The Trolls I've met in real life wander about thinking that they're the only one with a clue when it's actually the other way around. Sad little creatures. Oh well, bring 'em on, the hide isn't tough enough yet.

...which begs the question: "Why do we not let ONLY the people who submitted photos vote?"

You don't submit...you don't vote! Am I missing something here?

A lot of people who don't submit vote and comment. I usually get
something like 300 votes in a week with say 200 submissions - thats
1/3rd of the voters who didn't submit. It doesn't mean they
don't have an opinion.

Not everyone who enters, enters every week either, but maybe still
wants to vote or provide feedback - I still value thier input too.

I also value the non-submitter/non-photographer vote. I notice that in almost, but not all, the images I've been able to get to the photographers scores the photo higher than the non-photographers. I believe that photographers realize aspects (difficulty, intent, etc) of the photos that non-photographers do not. Still, I'd like my shots to be appealing to broad audience so welcome the input. Even the Trolls.

GE, that is brilliant. . .

Since they are there anyway why not use them. We could make the winner the one who got the most Troll votes. Can you imagine the variety of entries we could get trying to provoke 'em.

Pure genius. . .

So the person with the lowest score wins!

Nah, that would turn it into "Who can take the crappiest photo" challenge. Remember we're Trolling for Trolls so the idea is to tweak Trolls rather than generate crappy shots.

My troll wished that he could give me a 0 vote, wouldn't not voting at all accomplish that?

No, you need to increment the number of votes cast in order to lower the photo's score (by adding 0 points to be divided by the number of votes, now +1).

Ok, bad attempt at sarcasm. Give me a 1 and move on, at least tell me what is wrong with my pic if you are going to waste your time leaving a comment at all.
