I am looking to buy a new printer, but I cant make up my mind between the Epson R1800 and 1290s. I have results from the 1290, not the (s) and am impressed. Someone then told me about the R1800.

I am concerned about running costs on the R1800, but I will mainly print A4 with a few A3. Cartridges for r1800 £11 ea 6 individual cartridge, compared to £16 one 5 colour cartrige.

What is the capacity like?

Any comments on quality, cost, or issues, are very welcome.

Thanks.

I own the 1290 which I am happy with. Image quality of the 1290 is excellent and I've never had any problems with it.

I is, however, very slow, so I'm thinking of upgrading to the R1800.
The individual cartridges should be an improvement since with the 1290, once one colour is spent you'll have to exchange the whole cartridge.

I've yet to see a test on the R1800 though, anyone?

I have the 1280, which I believe is identical to the 1290. Good image quality, but very slow. Individual cartridges would be nice as it goes through ink like crazy. Also have problems with clogged nozzles requiring cleaning every so often.

One printer I have seen lately and like(very fast, excellent prints) is the Canon i9900. Blows the 1280/1290 out of the water in my opinon, and for about the same cost I think.

I agree with NickBall. The Canon i9900 is phenomenal! It also has the separate transparent ink tanks.

this thread gives quite a bit of information on the i9900.

You may find it worth reading.

This is a review I have found on the R1800
//www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson%20R1800/page_1.htm

I think the main difference, apart from the separate inks, is that it is pigment based. Also, I have heard something about being smudge proof.

Is the i9900 A3, this i9950, is but....?

ok, just seen the price of the i9950 (I think the UK equiv of the i9900) £549. Ouch! too much.

maybe i'll stick with the 1290s. Is the quality as good as the 1290?

I just checked the US prices for the i9900 and they range from US$415 to US$499. The number you quote is quite a markup for UK?!
