1) My camera has an option for sharpening photos as it takes them. Is this better, worse, or neutral compared to taking them as normal and sharpening them on the computer later?
2) Are there any good digital photography magazines that I might like to subscribe to? Informative, helpful, and fun... |

better control if you take them on low sharpening in the camera and then sharpen them as needed on the computer later
pros: more control
cons: more work
Magazines: You can find more information, in more depth and in a more timely manner on-line.

I get the UK Practical Photography magazine, lenswork, American Photo and PEI delivered, mainly because if I even read them once its cheaper to subscribe than buy it at a newsagent. I still find the more interesting and up to date stuff is on line, or the more in depth information is in books. |

Adjusting the sharpness is not as effective as adjusting your exposure and white balance. You may end up with harsh out-linse or defined pixels, depending on how good your camera is at reading edges.
As far as magazines, I agree...online resources seem to be more practical, up-to-date, and alot cheaper. |

I agree with the sharpening OUTSIDE the camera...I usually keep it at normal (none). As for magazines. It depends on what you enjoy and if you want to be specific or photography in general. I like Outdoor Photographer (mag and online), mainly because that is the part I enjoy most.
