Something to please consider when scoring a "Choice" photo low is this. Does the photo allow you to decide what you would do? That was my intention and I think I managed a good effort. I took a photo that would inspire the viewer to decide which way they would go.

Would you folks please go back and when viewing a photo see if the photo allows you to decide perhaps that's what the artist had in mind and I think that meets the challenge IMHO.

Ironically, I remember there being a similar dose of such pedantic tosh with the 'indecision' challenge.

...and we wonder why so many people find it hard to summon the enthusiasm to enter challenges.

No kidding! First one in three months for me and I'm getting slaughtered by the litteralists. I'll be lucky if I crack 5.0. I just got a comment stating that "Meets challenge description.....................1" (out of 10). So according to this person, I have the intelligence and inspiration of a slug.

Here, here! That's excatly the approach I was hoping most people would be using.

I did submit a photo, but I had many doubts about it. I know that it is currently running around a 3.7, but it is really about what I expected. Well, that is about 64 votes. Still, I look at them all as assignments, anyway, so I am not losing sleep over it.

I can't wait till the post challenge discussion hehe. There're some really fantastic photos that fall very short of meeting the challenge. I tend to give the technically fantastic photographs that do this fairly middle range scores because I just don't have the heart to vote something that pleases my eye so much sub 5.

I'm sorry, but the more I read this, the more I get irritated and just need to vent. Obiviously, based on my 4.1 score, the majority of folks that have voted thus far feel the same way as the commenter above. But I just don't see it this way at all....

Challenge description: We all have to make them. Creatively shoot a decision

This doesn't clarify to me that it's a decision to be made or a made decision, in which case either would work for the challenge in my opinion. Am I wrong in interpreting it this way? I guess, as most challenges go, it's a matter of opinion and the majority will win out in the end. I just wish I was with the majority on this one, damn it. :-)

Oooh... that'd be a nice surprise. I'm at an otherwise unremarkable 5.66. ;-)

The description didn't specify, so why should the voters?

Obviously it's too late now, but this thread was very interesting regarding "what is a decision". Link

I just realized something...

In my shot (without giving too much away) I have 2 subjects, one is in focus the other is not. I should have called my shot the subject in focus because that would emphasize that the decision has been MADE. I think that's why I'm getting voted down.

To think, 2 words probably had a huge impact on the avg. vote for my shot!

You have to be careful about submitting technically creative shots in open challenges....well you know what that causes...

I believe the difficulty with this challenge was the topic. It was hard to create the feeling of decision. I feel satisfied with the scores I gave. Well over 2 1/2 dozen photos recieved 6+ from me. About 6 photos got an 8. 2 got a 9. And 2 very good photos got a 10.

There were a number of photos that didn't convey a decision period (some of these were very good photos on their own, I just didn't get the feeling of a decision).

I prefered photos that conveyed emotion about mundane decisions (Humor, Horror, Pensive Thought, etc.).

There were many great photos however, even though not all of them got my highest rating... I still liked them.

Message edited by muckpond - pls. don't discuss specific image topics.

If y'all are so gosh darned annoyed with the "quality" of the images in this challenge, with the rather loose interpretation of the theme, with whatever, why not just sit out the vote? Alternatively, vote 5s on all of the photos but the few that you do think meet the challenge, etc, and let's get the fun back in the site before it runs too far away.

You want some cheese with that whine? ;-P

Agreed - if I have to see the title to see the "decision," I consider it not to meet the challenge.

Actually (on second thought) these voters can go straight to hell ;)

After reviewing all the pics in this challenge, I found myself voting higher than normal on pictures that weren't that good technically, but met the challenge. There were so few of these that I almost cheered out loud everytime I found one!

I'm hanging in a middle-of-the-road score that may actually do better than I thought sinse its going to be a low scoring challenge.

Im torn over this challenge, heres why. There are many good photos that like so many have pointed out aren't smack on the head obvious decisions. There are even some (many) that appear to just be a good photo, which was submitted with a title which makes the photo a decision. I don't think it is fair to those whose limited by the theme that many people retitle their "best of" shots, but then again I don't think its fair to those who went out to shoot a decision in an abstract way and whose title is just an explanation of their creative process. Im trying to figure out who went out and shot a decision and who just took the best picture off their hard drive and gave it a "decisive" name. I will vote accordingly but I really feel that some people missed the point of this challenge and some people got the point (but are going to get low scores, because voters will feel they are another person who missed the point). Creativity may be confused with topic irrelevance on this challenge and vice versa. Anyone get what Im trying to say? Please vote wisely..
