Whoohoo!
I'm delighted with this plummeting score into the DPC basement!

I was feeling really good about my entry but apparently the late night voters beg to differ. I'm sitting on

AGGREED! Personally I didn't like this challenge from the git-go, and now that I see the images, I see how bad this challenge really is. Without titles, these images would be lost in cyberspace without meaning. There are so few decent images in this challenge, I'm not even going to vote on these. I'm also saddened by how many people chose [admin edit] their decision to photograph, and one even [admin edit]. How sad is that? The only good thing about this challenge is it is over and we can move onto another...! Good luck to everyone who entered.

I knew my photo wasn't the strongest I've ever submitted, but I didn't expect it to score so low. Not very encouraging for my first submission in almost three months. This was a hard challenge to portray.

There is a good chance that the winning image will be sub-7. Good luck everyone.

If I should enforce my view of the challenge everytime I vote, how about this: This challenge was about decision, not choices. I should only vote high those photographs in which I clearly see a decision being made, and trash those which show ambiguity or non-decisiveness. I wonder how many would like that.

That's a bit of black/white view in my opinion.
I think it's hard to separate choices and decissions, because each moment in life, every single move we make, is a choice, followed by a decision, followed by a choice and so on and on. Not choosing is a decision too and deciding is making a choice.
Can't see it differently.

I think I just go by my instincts wether a photo appeals to me or not, wether it's a good composition or not (in my opinion). [admin edit]

Ok, I threw in my two dimes, now I go vote and that will not be easy this time.

What a bad way to start the morning. I'm not too thrilled with this whole event from what I've seen of the entires, my present score and of the other scores posted here. Not many actual Decision images in the pack from what I can see, which explains why I'm doing so well(sarcasm) since I entered a true shot of someone making a decision.

I'll refrain from voting since I'm so dissapointed and don't want to go about it with a bad attitude. I might even refrain the whole way through.

I also started low, but I am growing up. My only concern is about the comments, actually the lack of comments:

Aaaah folks, don't be discouraged. I think this early batch of voters have been voting in a very strange way. I'm really happy with my entry, I thought it was going to be my first 6+ shot but it's sitting on 5.5000 exactly at the moment. I encourage everyone to vote as that's the only way this challenge is going to be a worthwhile one :)

Good luck, folks.

i cant believe there are this many people that dont know how to make a decision. i've been looking through the thumbnails and all i see is (this? or that?) it looks like the people who actually made a decision might be out numbered by those who dont know the difference.

Voted on about 60% so far. It seems a lot of people just gave up on trying to even get close to the challenge! No wonder the scores are low. Some great photos as usual just difficult to make the connection in a lot of cases.

ok done voting. if your photo didnt show a "made" decision and i had to guess what the outcome of your photo was than you received a 3 because in my opinion you didnt meet the challenge and you do not deserve to win!
06/01/2005 08:40:59 AM · #43
I started low and will probably stay there although the three comments I have gotten so far say it is a good shot/idea.

I haven't voted on any yet but have looked at all of them twice now. I am more disappointed in these than I was with the beauty entries. [admin edit] I really don't want to vote low, but I just don't think a lot of these came close to meeting the challenge. I agree with Steveinnz who said it seems people just gave up on this one. Some look like the person just stopped whatever they were doing and took a picture and submitted it.

From dictionary.com:

de·ci·sion (d-szhn)
n.
1. The passing of judgment on an issue under consideration.
2. The act of reaching a conclusion or making up one's mind.
3. A conclusion or judgment reached or pronounced; a verdict.

If you notice #2, the definition includes THE ACT OF REACHING A DECISION. I think several of you are scoring low because a decision isn't already made..........IMHO........you're dead wrong! You should rescore!

Wow, that's pretty harsh. As you can see from the entries, many people interpreted the challenge as also the process of making a decision. I don't plan on penalizing anyone who did not show an actual decision being made. As I said before, from the number of entries that do not show the decision being made, you can see that this was a very confusing and interpreted differently topic. Just look at idnic's definition above of decision. :)

Many people took a "normal" photograph and just made the decision all within the title. I think the challenge was asking for the photograph to represent decision, rather than to just take any picture and rely on a thr title to make it appropriate to the challenge. We'll see what tomorrow brings as far as scores...but I think it will be a VERY low scoring challenge in general. :(

I have to agree on this one. I always look through all the submissions before I vote to get a feel for the challenge, then I go back to vote.
Some had no connection to Decisions and neither did the title. Then there were the ones that only had a title about a decision. [admin edit]

I got about 1/3 of they way through voting and decided to call it a night and start again today. I hope by the light of day something will reach out and grab me. Very hard challenge.

OK, I read it. It says to shoot a decision. It doesn't say anything about whether the decision has already been reached, is pending, or will need to be reached at some point.

so i guess an indecision and decision are the same thing?

If you're undecided, then you're still deciding, right? ;-)
