DPChallenge FAQ Addendum:

1. I have $75 to spend on a new camera and lenses. What should I buy?

Answer: You will need a Canon EOS 1Ds and all the L lenses that will fit in your bag. You can’t make good photographs without this gear, so don’t even bother. You know you have more than $75. We don’t believe it when you say that.

2. When do the new challenges start?

Answer: At midnight on rollover days. Sometimes at 1am. Sometimes at 2am. Sometimes at 8am. It really depends on a lot of things. If it doesn’t come up at midnight on rollover days, you should immediately start a thread asking where it is. That will get it fixed faster.

3. Someone gave me a vote of 1 and didn’t leave me a comment telling me why. They should be forced to leave me a comment.

Answer: Face it. The photo sucks. Quit whining. You have more important things to worry about. Hopefully.

4. I saw a lot of photos that didn’t get fair scores in the challenge. What should I do?

Answer: You should post a thread with thumbnails of all those photos and simply say that they are all underrated.

5. I’m not gonna be here when the challenge is over. How can I get my photo pre-validated?

Answer: Don’t worry about it. You’re not gonna win anyway.

6. My first ten votes in this challenge were 10,8,7,8,9,7,8,6,9,1. Who was that bastard?

Answer: You are way too anal and have too much free time on your hands. Do you ever leave your house?

7. How can I increase my enjoyment level on challenge rollover nights? The votes don’t come in fast enough.

Answer: Start a “How ya Doin?” thread. Then you can see everyone’s average score after 7 votes. After you have started that thread, go ahead and post something political or post some photos of your dog for open discussion. You may also want to post a thread asking how you can join the site council.

8. I didn’t get a photo entered in this challenge. How can I relieve the boredom? I have no update button!

Answer: Start a thread about it in the forums. Post some of the other photos you shot this week.

9. Why don’t people check my comments as helpful?

Answer: They are deliberately trying to piss you off. Either that, or they didn’t find it helpful. The bastards… You may want to start a thread about it in the forums.

…more to come

10. People keep mentioning an "update button", and I can't find mine. Please help me find my update button so I can have fun too.

Answer: It's in your wallet, you cheap geek. Send 25 dollars to Drew and Langdon and you can have one too.

11. I submitted the wrong photo to the challenge and it's bombing badly. How can I submit the photo that I really meant to submit?

Answer: You can't. So suffer.

12. My photograph in the "Opaque" challenge was unfairly disqualified. Do I have legal recourse?

13. In the last challenge some jerk gave me a 1 and left a comment that my pretty blue heron did not meet the challenge.

From Dictionary.com
air·plane n.
Any of various winged vehicles capable of flight

My great blue heron is too an airplane. Can't we ban these narrow minded sick bastards from voting and leaving comments?

A. Only if you promise not to participate in any future challenge.

... It won't change the disqualification; but at least you'll have someone else to blame for it. (and we won't have to listen)

I think John should get together With Ken on the DPC Enquirer. Can you just imagine those two minds in collaboration? BTW, it's almost June. I'm anxiously awaiting the next issue!

14. What's a FAQ?

A FAQ is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (and their answers). It was written because the authors had some extra disk space they figured they might as well fill, and is not intended to be read. You should not actually use it to find answers to any of those questions. When posting any of its listed questions to the forums, you certainly should not do a forum search to see if anyone has asked them before. FAQ is pronouced faa-Q.

Submit it - no one can tell the difference.
If you really think it needs processing;
USM the crap out of it.. that always helps
15b. My image is in focus but I need IMPACT, what can i do?
Also USM the crap out of it..
or selective (de)saturation always makes dull images better .. really !!

Any way to make this required reading before being able to submit to a challenge? Truly good stuff!

18. What is up with the voters? I gave them a fabulous image and they returned a 4.7?

answer: that is like the person asking is everybody around me crazy. You must be a masochist because you want to hear it directly that your creation just stinks.

19. I submitted a photo that had some noise in it but I think it's a wonderful shot -- perfectly composed, strong subject, and portrays a good feeling. What did I do wrong?

Answer: That's just the closed-minded people voting. They don't know a good photograph when they see one. Because it has noise, it must have been a mistake and deserves a 3 or less.

Should I post "how would this have done?" questions when I have outtakes and/or didn't get to submit my photo?

Answer: Absolutely. There are never enough photos to look at in a challenge anyway. Chances are that yours is better than most that were submitted.

LOL. Is it just me or is there a lot of sarcasm in your FAQ? :)

21. There is no sarcasm on DPC, it's just not allowed...people don't understand it so we don't do it ...

22. Why is it that every time I post a response, reply, or even start a thread in the forums, it dies quickly and falls off the page???

You, my friend, are a threadkiller. You don't have anything even remotely interesting or timely to say. You probably post too much or too often anyway, so just shut the heck up for Pete's sake. Go take a picture. Just don't post it and ask for opinions on it because that thread will surely die as well.
