Autumn is a lovely name... remind me of one I came across yesterday, Amber.

If you like alt spellings my friend's name is Kristian. I don't usually like alt spellings where it's just to try and be different but I think this is not that rare but rarer than Christian.

One warning from what other friends have experienced. Be careful asking people about their feelings on names you really like a lot - many of us dislike various names, usually it's a conscious or unconscious reaction to people of that name that we have encountered in our lives and what we thought of them. It can be hard to read negatives on the names you love and then go on and choose them.

Hopefully no-one will criticise any of yours but just let you know extra ideas...

:o)

Lovely names, buzzrock, but another warning!
Try to imagine living your life with the name and if it will cause any problems. For example, are the initials spelling out anything that means something else in USA (they don't in UK but my father lived with the initials WC and a friend had FAG as his!. Also are they the same or similar to someone else in the household? This leads to difficulty with mail, especially for a boy , as they grow up.

Also will the name be shortened by friends or family and do you like the shortened form? ~(`i called my son Matthew, loved the shorten form of Matt for a man but hated it when his friends called "Maff!" across the playground!)
Enjoy choosing and enjoy the baby!!!!:)

Buzzrock... you call it whatever you want, regardless of spellling or initials.... when my niece was born 18 years ago, i absoloutely hated the name my sister had picked out, Madison, there last name being Terrace i thought 'How ridiculous, i honestly thought she'd get Medicine Cabinet,'... but now i LOVE the name , especially with her last name, it's certainly a name people do not forget.... my only regret was that she got to have that name first... Madison is a gorgoeus name, and no matter what you pick, once the baby is born they will get used to it..... they always do...... If you pick a name that sounds unusual, people will always remember it, especially with initials that mean something else.... i have some friends with the last name Bridge, i begged them to called the daughter 'Sydney', but they wouldn't be in it for the same reasons i would of had it, it's catchy, and it's also something that makes you different to everybody else. the names we have are Brooke,Abbie and Taylah.... the boy's name's we had picked out are Jock, Marlin and Mason...
just my little 2c worth, have fun and good luck with it.....

Well, I'm not fond of that "Cady" part. I would definitely change it to like "Rockefeller" or "Vanderbilt" or something rich and pretentious sounding. :P

My nieces name is Shakira Leila. When i first heard it i wasnt too sure but it really suits her. Apart from that I love Autumn and i also like Amber. For boys it is hard, we had so much trouble deciding on a boys name so i cant help you there, sorry, but our youngest sons name is Jake Anthony. That is him pictured with Shakira.

My son's name is Blaise. People either love it or hate it, but it's got a lot of meaning for us.

all are very pretty names and trendy. Although I love Elizabeth..
It's amusing when you work in a school, how many kids in each grade have the same name so you can almost see how old they are by their names

Madison is the hottest name for 2004/2005. So with that in mind there are a lot named that. I do LOVE the names you've picked out. For me I think I like Krista. It's beautiful and more unique. Also short so easy to use on jewelry, clothes ect once she gets older. I would keep them all in mind and once she's born and you see her you will know which fits her. Best of luck to you !

if you need ideas for names all you have to do is find a middle-schooler with a cast!!!!

The most unusual girls name I came accross was 'Patience'.
Other girls names I like are

Carys (pronounced Karis)
Jasmine (pronounced Jazmin)

My daughter (16 years old) is named Savannah, so I'm particularly fond of that one ;)

You may want to check out this link. It lists the most popular baby names for 2004. I tried to stay away from names on that list. Not that they aren't great names, but I didn't want my boys going to kindergarten with three or four other kids in their class with the same names. My boys are Cooper Elliott and Hogan Mitchell. A bit out there, I agree, but we liked them, and that's what's important!

Also, be careful asking for too much input from others. I've found that people are capable of ruining a name for you that you really like. They come up with some comment like, "I knew a fat kid who picked his nose in junior high with that name" or something of the sort. You can never get that image out of your head! Congrats and good luck!

Edited to say, OOPS! Didn't see this site linked above! Sorry!

Woooooo, no buns as of yet...just the talk of it is in the works :P

I am partial to Krista, Savannah and Hannah. Middle name optional.

I got vetoed on Kyle, Collin, and Keaton. Guess we're going to have to go for gender selection to have a girl, for lack of boy names-lol.

Buzz has also heard the usual: Katie Cady.
But we were both kind of partial to Muckpond ;)

Self-fulfilling prophecies are quite powerful. Just don't name your kid Candi and you should be fine... But seriously, whatever name you chose will affect the personalities of the kids, because as they are growing up, they figure out their own identity heavily by how others treat them. You may not have any preconceptions or prejudices about a certain name but other people do, and as social animals, we interact with these people on a daily basis. Whether it means getting teased in grade school or whether your resume gets read for a job application, the child's name will impact how she gets treated, which in turn will impact how she sees herself.

Just a reminder that you need to consider not only the aesthetics but also the practicalities of the name you choose. Good luck and congrats.

FYI, My personal favorite is "Catherine".

I have always loved the name Catherine...I chose it for my confirmation name way back when I was a youngin. Anyhow, I have 2 children already, and I thought that what you wrote was very true, right down to the nicknames that have evolved over time and seeing their personalities develop. Nice input, TY!!

I actually WANTED one of my kids to have a nickname, but school intervened. My sweet little J.P. (he's 6) has been called J.P. since I was pregnant with him. His full name is Jason Patrick, but I've only ever called him that in times of 'distress' if you know what I mean. ;) Anyway, at school, both for PreK and K, his teachers REFUSE to call him or let him write his name as J.P. and it drives me insane! He is finally used to it, being called Jason at school and J.P. by everone else on the planet.

My baby, Clay, is actually Brian Clayton...he starts school next year so I guess I better get ready for him to come home wondering why everyone is calling him Brian.

André never had any nickname problems, since that is his first name anyway. His name is André Michael, but he would have probably been André Kirk if we had known what Agassi's middle name was at the time (big time tennis fans). ;o)

"I don't have a baby, but if I did, I would either buy a baby-name book or invite somebody over who had a cast on."

Okay, I gotta chime in on this...Baby Names are my speciality. My wife and I bought baby name books on our third date. My 16-year-old daughter is named Madison and at the time it was VERY unusual. Of course now it is not so unusual, but I still love it. My son is Hunter, which is not that unusual now either, but he looked more like a Hunter than an Ian (the front-runner prior to his birth). Both of my children were "named" prior to being born and that name changed both times as soon as I saw them. In fact, my son's name was changed again a week letter when I realized his four initials spelled something (HACK) not super positive, so now his initials spell HAWK...much cooler. I figure with all four names, he has about 176 possible alternatives to work with if Hunter isn't doing it for him. Anyway, good luck and the name you choose will be the best possible name for your child - I promise.
