The Weather results had to be recalculated. The previous winner was photographed back in December. We cannot stress this rule enough, please be aware that your challenge entries MUST be photographed within the given time frame.

Also, if you feel that the date rule is unclear in anyway (or may be unclear to new users), how can we make it more clear?

Thanks for any input you may have.

Good catch, people should just start following the rules!

It is always sad when an image is DQed.

That particular one was not in my personal top three, but is a really good shot.

It is a fundamental concept that all images be taken during the competition week. It may be the most basic rule of all. It makes the images I see week after week even more special when I think that a creative photographic artist came up with that image during the week of competition.

Unfortunately, if the image is not taken during the challenge week there is no question it should be DQed, just like that absolutely wonderful image that Pep Ventosta had DQed from first place some weeks back:

He bounced back and so can others if they make mistakes.

I wonder how many people we would rule out if we required the orginal image with exif data for all the top 10 each week? I know some of it can be modified but I don't think you can modify all of the dates in the data. At least it's somewhat difficult to do. Yes, I'm bringing it up again, I'm tired of seeing people caught with old photos in the challenge.

In another thread, the photographer admits he didn't read the rules carefully, and I don't think any of the dq'ed winners were malicious cheats, just oversights.

To answer Drew's question -- Maybe on the "View Details and Submit" page, just above the submission deadline line, put in a line that says exposure dates or something.

Of course, it is on the page already, on the left, as I just found out.

edited to show my own embarrassing discovery

This is probably the site I should have posted my question (submitted it elsewhere).

Unfortunately I was the DisQ (weather photo). It is not clear to me on the main photo entry page, what the date of the pic must be. ie. the current Fauna, I had an entry, but now retracted it. I see the deadline is April 22, and voting is throug 4-23... but what is the date that the Fauna pics must be taken?

I obviously am new to this site, and really think you have a good thing going here... but a little clarification would be very helpful.

Drake, in the rules it says "Exposure Date: Your photograph must be taken within the submission dates for the challenge unless otherwise specified in the 'extra rules' section of the challenge." You had to check a box saying you'd read the rules before you were able to submit your photo...this is why! Better luck next time...and nice shot anyway.

in the Challenges -> Challenge Rules section of the site, all your questions should be answered.. would be a really good idea to read through all of it to make sure you're not aware of other rules for submissions..

It would add an extra line to the challenge explaination but what if it was listed like this:

Challenge: Fauna
Type: Open Challenge
Exposure Dates: 4/14/03-4/22/03
Submission Deadline - 4/22/03
Submissions: 271
View Details and Submit

Or - another option - on the submit screen where you have to enter the Date of Exposure - could it list the date limits above the fields?

I do think for those people that read all the rules prior to submitting a photo it is pretty clear.

I think that the (US-)notation of the dates could also be confusing to new European members (in particular the first days of the month):

e.g. 04/05/03 = 'the fourth of may 2003' for most of us in Europe.

Just my 2 (euro-)cents ;o)

Oops, seems like the previous is already beaten to death in another thread. Sorry folks!

If you take the photo after the challenge topic is posted, and you get it in before the deadline then you're safe. How difficult is that?
It does say that the shot must be taken within the submission dates so maybe you should put the submission dates up on top along with the deadline. Or put it in plain english "Take your shot between these dates" and "Submit your shot before this date".
