What do you think of the new sigma lens. I only have the kit lens, and I think that will be my next lens. Please advise my on this one. I will not buy more expensive lens at the moment, and to me this looks like the best for the money.
I would also like advise on which to buy sb600 og sb800. (for your knoweledge in Iceland sb800 costs about $760 and sb600 $460, this is not a joke, and of course I will buy it on the internet)

I've heard very good things about the lens. It's pretty darn sharp, and fast enough focusing. I've heard it has a slight yellow tint and sometimes you could get a bad copy that you'll need to send back. I think it's a good lens for the money.

I'm not sure what you're comparing it to. Assuming you get a good copy, it's very sharp at f/4 and above and tolerably sharp wide open. It's a bulky, heavy lens, though, and may or may not be the best choice for what you want to shoot in that zoom range.

Also, absolutely buy from some place that allows returns. If that special low-price deal doesn't allow a return, avoid it. It can take several tries to find a copy that isn't defective in some way (lousy sharpness, autofocus problems, back focused, etc.).

Check out the Metz 54 MZ4 flash. Between the 550 and 580 in features/output and should be cheaper maybe for you since it is German in origin?

I got a used one (like new..the MZ4 is the newer version) with the canon foot (the brain that goes between the flash and camera) for $300. Normal retail is $400. The MZ3 is the earlier version and unless you need some feature added to the MZ4, you can get a used 3 for $250 or so (see //www.Fredmiranda.com for sale forum)

Metz makes some great flash units.

You should also check out the Sigma units.

If you are really on a budget, search for a "Promaster" brand flash. My dad has one for his Oly 8080 and it works really well.
