So, where and when do you all want to get together in June? I'd like to see more of the LA / Ventura border DPCers joining us this time too!

I know I'll only be free on certain days, I am trying to figure those days out right now. Please, every LA DPCer, post your availability in this thread so I can try to find a way for us to get together again!

I miss you all!
:) Arie

Any weekend day is good for me. As for locals, I'm open.
I'm not too familiar with what's north of LA County. If I remember correctly, doesn't Ventura have really nice beaches? Maybe some bird/seals by the beach?

I'm from Ventura/Camarillo, although I live in Huntington Beach, now, and yeah... Ventura's got some nice beaches, but Channel Islands has more photo ops, in my opinion. I won't be able to make the meeting, simply because I'll be in Texas all of June. *snaps fingers* Darn it!

Hopefully you can meet us in July Jamie! Thanks for the suggestions! Keep an eye on the LA Area DPC Meet Ups!

What's at Channel Islands? I looked at the site and it is a national park with fees but no mention of animals.

Hi! I'm new to this meetup thing...and moving to Orange County at the beginning of June. Need some time to get situated...but if you decide on later in the month, would love to meet up! Can someone give me a synposis on what goes on during these things? Thanks!

we try to have Meet up's every month so if you can't make June there will be one in July. Welcome to have you aboard btw.

As far as what goes on.. we get together, exchange tips and different techniques, take hundreds of photos and have a great time with others whom enjoy the photography world :)

Hmmmm, I'm kinda leaning toward LA Zoo.
05/23/2005 08:03:49 PM · #12
the zoo works for me.. hopefully my 70-300 will suffice. the 11th also would be a great day for me, granting its not 100+ degree's :)
05/23/2005 08:42:35 PM · #13
I like June 11 as well. I don't mind returning to the zoo.
Raul, you have to remember that a 300mm on a D70 is really a 450mm lens and should suffice. If we go, I'm packing light and just going to bring my Sigma 70-300. I was very surprised, at 300mm, I could see the fishing line of a distant fisherman. Amazing.

Hi aznchic88,
Congrats on your move to the "OC" ha ha.
Generally, we talk here on this forum about time and a place to go shooting (the photographic type that is), then we carpool/meet up at the site and shoot, maybe eat, chimp, talk and then go home. Some with the ability to post here or at other sites post them for all of the internet world to see. It's a blast to photograph with others in a group. We as a group have shot in Downtown LA, Antelope Valley, Hollywood, Pasadena, Glendale, Anza Barraca???, and more. We just went to the Queen Mary/Long Beach shoreline village and the Renaissance Faire.
You should join us, it's lot of fun if you into photography.

I wrote a nice long post here, but lost it when I hit "post" and the page didn't load. Oh well.

I am fine with the zoo or Griffith Park in general. All are welcome to join us!

Wow, June is pathetic for me. I have only ONE free Saturday: June 11th. Otherwise I'll either be in Atlanta or China or busy at home.
05/24/2005 01:52:00 AM · #19
Well i hope that you take your camera with you on your trips down to Atlanta and China. You can always throw some practice in and get your photography skills back :D.. If you say its for buisness.. no excuse, there's always time for snap shots. Hopefully you can join us and we can figure out where we're going.

No offense to DPC members in Atlanta but it's not one of my favorite places to visit especially in the really hot summer. China will not be any better either temperature-wise but it's China! :) My camera will go to both places, of course. I should look into a longer lens for my China trip as my longest lens is a 28-105. Ideally, I'd like a 70-200mm but that's a BIG lens, physically and optically but I'm concerned about the physical size more than anything when I travel. Hopefully I don't go all the way to China and take crappy photos! :D

Greg, sorry to repost on the same topic, but if you want upto 200mm reach and size and weight is a concern, I'd recommend considering the Canon 55-200mm USM Mark II zoom. I have it, and it looks like a longer version of the 18-55 kit lens on the 20D and has the same consumer lens (cheap) feel. It has a 52mm filter size, zooms really quick (quicker than my 28-135 and 70-200 f2.8L) and is really light. I think it's sharp for a consumer lens and that's what I use when I want more reach and light weight for traveling. The Mark I version sucked, but the Mark II version has a new coating from what I hear to make it sharper with no CA. It costs about $200, definately not L lens quality, but it also is light and doesn't cost over a grand. This would probably give you enough coverage with your 24-70 and 55-200. I have it with a CPL filter if you want to check it out (for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee) before buying it, if we go on the 6/11 day and if you join us and try it out, since that is your only free day.
As for me, I'm considering the Sigma 50-500.

So, June 11th, LA Zoo?
05/26/2005 01:39:05 PM · #23
Unless there's some big family thing going on with me that day, I'm free. Katy will be on the east coast (Virginia) that day but returns on Sunday so she won't join us.
05/26/2005 03:12:03 PM · #24
sounds good to me, how about travel town afterwards, it's
Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Plus we can all check out Greg's new 70-300 DO IS lens. ha ha.
Now I've to decide if I want a Bigma for EXTREME close ups.
