Which is a good bouncer and a good diffuser for the canon 580ex flash?

I recently read a white index card works just as well and if not better than an omni bouncs or the likes. You just attach it to the back side of the flash head and set it to 60* (degrees)

let me find the link and I will post it

I'm using the lumiquest pocket-bounce and getting good results, I also got the gold & silver inserts for it.

The gold is great for shadow-fill outdoors, and to be honest I can't really see the difference between the silver and the native white of the pocket bounce.

I tried a Sto-Fen off a friends 580, and would probably like to have both in my bag, as the sto-fen is smaller in use, and gives a diferent effect. The lumiquest bounce products are large looking...

My main reason for the pocket bounce + inserts was for fill in outdoor portraits, and I felt it gave better results than the Sto-Fen for that purpose.

I was actually looking for the 'ProMax' set from lumiquest when I got mine, but I required it quickly, and the local shops didn't have one in stock. I'll probably order one at some stage, as it has the diffuser, and 80/20 reflector as well, which might come in handy for event work.

Does the Sto-fen Omni-bounce eliminate shadows behind a subject when the camera is used in portrait (vertical) position?
What other flash bouncer/diffusers do this well?

Nope.. Or at least not completely.

Any diffuser/reflector will make the shadows less harsh, but to removethem you need a flash bracket, prefereably one that that leaves the flash sitting vertical, and not 'on it's side' like some do..

See KevinRiggs self-portrait in This thread.

Here's a thread from a while ago about the effectiveness of bounces / diffusers..

No matter how much you want to spend the best diffuser is a rubbing alchohl bottle with the top cut off. If that doesn't fit your flash try a lubriderm lotion bottle.

Omni bounce is one inch by one inch. That will not make soft shadows compared to a five inch diffuser.

Or you could spend $50 on this:

Just my option.

I have the omni-bounce, but I don't really like it. I picked up the big-bounce a few weeks ago, and I love it.

And what about softboxes for the flash any good out there or not worth it?
