Is this permissible? It seems that Dust and Scratches is to Despeckle as Unsharp Mask is to sharpen. That it, is performs the same function except with user-set parameters.
Since we allow Sharpen to extend to Unsharp Mask I was wondering if that we allow Despeckle to extend to Dust & Scratches.
I need to know today, of possible, as it affects my submission.
ADDENDUM: This is the only way I can clean up noise and hot pixels on an ISO 400, long exposure shot. My camera seems to have a LOT of hot pixels and tweaking the setting slightly clears it right up.

I would personally say yes, as long as you are applying it to the whole
image, because as you mentioned it is basically the same as despeckle,
but with a bit more control. I'm sure most people actually use
Unsharp Mask rather than sharpen (at least I'd hope they do). Even
Adobe recommend not using the 'sharpen' filter...
But obviously, I don't have the last say on whether it is allowed or not.
Hopefully some other Moderators will pipe up too.

This won't help, as I'd vote yes based on logic, but no based on the rules...if your analogy above is correct, then D&S should certainly be included in the list of permissible filters, but I think such a change needs to be announced at the beginning of a challenge so everyone can take advantage equally. Although...it seems as though I was told curves were an acceptable adjustment, even though the list has never been amended.
You might use the "Contact" link and get a ruling from the admins directly instead of sparking an early debate on the upcoming rules changes... |

Problem is GE, based on your view of the rules, things like
unsharp mask aren't allowed either - I hope that that is wrong!

Me too, since I use almost nothing but Curves and Unsharp Mask!
I think Drew sent me an email once saying that Curves were OK, and the use of Unsharp Mask has been mentioned enough in the forums that I think the statute of limitations has expired for objecting...

Just FYI, I did contact one of the admins a while ago and got a ruling that Unsharp Mask was OK.
