My shiny Panasonic FZ20 is about 3 weeks old and I've taken some great photos with it, but it just stopped working...
I'm not sure how it happened but when I turned the camera on yesterday it doesn't respond to any of the controls. The lens still extends out and the LCD displays normally, I can even switch modes with the dial; but nothing else works, not even the shutter release or menu button.
Before I shipped off my baby to the repair center, does anybody have any suggestions?

Have you taken out the batter? If not take out the battery and leave it out for about an hour. Then put back in and try it. I never had that problem with my FZ20 but I did read on another site about something like that.

yeah I've tried taking out the battery and leaving it out like that, no cigar.

Does it have a "reset to defaults" menu option, and is that one of the controls that still works?

Is it switching into "play" or "record" mode? If in play mode, that explains why the shutter release isn't working. Perhaps something is stuck? A button? Keeping it in play mode?

Just some ideas for you to play with. My Canon G2 did something similar, but it was 2 or so years old and ready for retirement I guess!

No it's not stuck in playmode, I can still switch modes like normal, but none of the buttons work in ANY mode. Therefore I can't even do a reset.

Ok, see if any button is "stuck". Push down, a little to the side, etc., and see if any pop out.

With many devices, one stuck button spoils the party for all the other buttons.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but you may want to ask the same question here. Someone may have had the same problem.

Okay, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ20 too, and my story is a bit different.

At the beach i set my camera down on a flat stone to keep it out of the sand. Suddenly, a pug dog picked the camera up by its straps and whipped it about wildly. In the process the camera took a fall to the sand. Now there is sand jamming the extension mechanism in the camera and I need to get it repaired. No camera shop will do it. How do I go about sending the camera off to repair, Panasonic's website was pretty unclear and I couldn't find instructions or an address of a repair center. If anyone has been through this before please let me know what to do.

Oh man pedxr, that really sucks! I believe there are times when PETA has no right to stop you from doing what you need to do!
