Drew,

Just out of curiosity, what OS are you running? WIN9X: WIN2000: XP Home: XP Pro?

Everything I've read says an "IRQ NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL" error is hardware a hardware conflict or a bad hardware driver. Any other ideas?

Hi Drew, did you do a new OS install with the motherboard? If not, I think I would, but know that is a major pain! Try looking through the resources at //search.support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?Catalog=LCID%3D1033%26CDID%3DEN-US-KB%26PRODLISTSRC%3DON&withinResults=&QuerySource=gsfxAdvancedSearch_Query&Product=msall&Queryc=%22IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL%22&Query=%22IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL%22&KeywordType=ALL&maxResults=25&Titles=false&numDays= and see if you find anything that fits your particular issue.

For what it's worth, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL isn't (in general) indicating any sort of IRQ conflict. Windows XP is more than happy to manage multiple devices sharing IRQs (well, that's the theory anyway). There's an article that explains exactly what it means here:

//msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/6077.asp

It's pretty much a "something up, probably hardware/driver related" message. One thing that might be worth checking is your PSU - the Athlon XP (and come to that Pentium 4s too, the newer the processor the more power hungry it is) can be quite fussy about having a good quality PSU, especially if you're running other high-power devices in your machine (for example, a high-end graphics card).

Other suggestions I've seen is removing the Via 4 in 1 drivers and using the XP defaults, but I can't comment on that personally because I've never used them!

I'm going to stick my neck out although folks are getting bitten for saying this, but...

You started this thread talking about a funky reply from your Processor. I haven't seen why you now rule the processor out as the culprit. I'd take another long hard look in that direction. Your processor obviously isn't playing well with your BIOS.

Disclosure Note : The writer of this post does have a fair amount of Intel stock. He also has over 30 years experience working with microcomputers. It is also his opinion that AMD does not do nearly the same amount of QA (quality assurance) as Intel... Their chips are very nice, but the testing just isn't there. Lastly, he is not recommending an Intel processor, just a long hard look at why the BIOS is reporting the wrong processor.

Ok, go ahead... rip me up :)

In one of the hundred threads I've read trying to track down the problem, someone suggested I run a test on my memory. I used memtest86. I let it run last night, and apparently ~90 mins into the test, it stopped with this screen:

Was this ever resolved? I was listening to computer corner this weekend, and a user had a similiar problems that was a memory issue, and it made me think of this.
