Okay, here's a thought,

How bout the time frame for which challenge photo's be taken be dropped? I for one am not able to submit to most challenges because of the short time frame . My work takes up most of my time as well as taking care of my kids. Maybe its easier for those who dont work or have plenty of time on their hands. I have many photo's stored that were taken in the past that I could use for challenges. Whadda ya think? Please please please, could this be possible???

I think this isn't the best idea for several reasons:

1/ really biased in favour of people who have been shooting for longer (bigger archives)

2/ removes a lot of the incentive to go out and try new things (oh I've got a shot just like that - I'll throw that one in)

3/ removes a lot of the incentive to learn/ improve.

4/ increases the number of submissions we have to vote on - everyone will have something to enter for every challenge, or more than currently.

5/ a whole lot less of a challenge.

There are plenty of other photography challenges that are anything goes/ no time limit challenges - you can enter anything any time you like. It just seems pretty integral to this particular challenge that it is a narrow window/ time pressure challenge.

Maybe a better idea is to have a concurrent month long challenge for members - see if we can get better quality entries as a result and allow people to fit it in better.

I think the idea is mainly to learn and stay fresh in photography. I wouldn't like to see this change, because people would STOP taking pics and people could submit great stuff and do nothing.

Sites like DigitalPhotoContest.com have no limit on when a photo was taken! But unlike DPC, feedback is almost totally lacking, even when submitted to their critique site! The "Challenge" in DPC seems to me the key element in its success. Think, move, shoot! With style of course!

Oh no the time frame must stay forever. This is what makes dpchallenge so great.
I have improved my photography and more importantly enjoy it so much more because of the challenges.

If the time frame goes then so do i.
But i can`t see it ever happening.

I like Gordon's idea about concurrent monthly member challenges to give some time and thought to entries. I also wouldn't mind if we had a 'extra challenge sometime called "Best of your Archive" to let people show off that shot they took that wasn't for a challenge but is their personal favorite.

But like most here have said, the time limit is what makes this site what it is...

Having an archive challenge would be ok once in a great while. I can understand the frustration of working and having kids to take care of but honestly if you really want to participate in the challenges you will incorporate the time spent with the kids into it. Not only can the kids learn about photography but at the same time you are saving those once in a lifetime memories. I have found my most precious photos are taken while with my little boy at the park or in the back yard.

I think a monthly 'power challenge' would be a great addition to the site... announce the topic... one month to prepare... one week to vote...

I don't know that overall image quality would improve, but it would open the subjective door quite a bit I believe...

Thats what would better fit for me personally . How many people I wonder have the time to submit to every challenge? I harldy ever have the time to submit to one a month. I realise that their are other Brand X sites out there, But it was DPC that pulled me in with its simplicity and the ability to learn more here. I feel overwhelmed with the short time frame , thats all.

I actually really like this idea. It would allow you to take the time to do some thorough research on the subject and possible techniques. One problem I'm finding is that I do not know enough about studio technique to create good studio style shots. So rather than lost time during the challenge week, I find other subjects to shoot. While I'm liking the things I find, I'd like the time to learn how to shoot studio style.

Just a thought.
