my pic is going down very fast.... people aren't looking good...they keep saying it is oversharp, etc...but it is a cross-hatch painting effect. I have actually tried to get it dq'ed, but no luck yet! Wish I had never entered now!!!!

What do you mean you're trying to get it disqualified? Do you think you had used an illegal post-processing technique? Or are you saying that you want it disqualified because it's doing poorly?

Because of how poorly it is doing. Maybe I can just chalk it up to rushing for a photo and not doing so well this time...actually I don't that well anytime, but I'm very new and still learning.

Truegsht, don't get upset over scores, keep submitting and learning and I am sure you will get better and happier with scores too :)

You are right..I just need to live and learn! Alot has changed for me the last few months...learning more and more. My problem is rushing around trying to submit at the end instead of thinking the challenge through and composing better.

I reckon the vast majority of people active in DPC would have had a bad score or two, or several, here and there. I hope you can perhaps take the site and what it offers as a learning experience, and not as a "what's my worth" kind of an exercise.
The second approach, I'm afraid, might want you to quit coming here (the same way you might want to "pull" or get your current picture disqualified) and leave you with endless frustrations.
The first take on DPC, though, might get you more rewards, even those in the personal sense.
I joined here a couple of months back, have had a horrible run in the challenges, but I think I am picking up a thing or two here and there. Sometimes I see some very nice photos, and I'm thinking if I can unwind a bit at the end of the day, and spend a few minutes looking at some nice photos, then that would be more than worth the US$25 (I think that's right, someone correct me if I'm wrong :)) I pay for a yearly membership. So far, I think I've put on 17 photographs as my favorite, and at that rate, it's cost US$1.47 for me to enjoy them all year long.
Good luck with your current picture, as well as with your future submissions.

That's really how you have to look at it. I knew nothing about DOF, aperture, post processing or noise before I started on this site. However, being in marketing I know very well how unpredictable the general public can be. They can humble the best ideas. I, personally, celebrated my first and only score above a 5 (so far) and will probably do the same should I ever get another. I try and beat my average "vote received" with every entry, but it is what it is. You can go crazy trying to take a photo to get a good score, but this might take away the need to express that gets many into photography in the first place, or you can take pictures for yourself. I like the themes because it feels a bit like a photo assignment but I think my best photos aren't the ones I set up but "captures" I'm fortunate enough to see and get. I've been having a ton of fun and have learned ten times what I knew. I feel I'm getting my money's worth

I don't expect much from my submission. In fact I expect it to be my worst.

I think my triangle entry will be low too, but I am hoping my "outside looking in" entry will get some high marks.

It would have been cool if every voter had given a five to every entry.

Ugh. Can someone recommend my entry for DQ and I will plead guilty and I won't have to have this less-than-average score stain my just-above-average record? Ah well, more "what-not-to-do" lessons. :)

Doing ok. This is beating my average. That's because my average has taken a terrible beating the past couple of weeks.

Here's the thing, and there's no getting around it. Subtle Sucks!

I have a beautiful photo in this challenge. Numerous commenters have told me so and unless they are lying through their teeth, I choose to believe them.

But the tie in to the challenge takes a little looking (not imagination, not invention, just inspection). It's more subtle than say ... 5 clocks all reading 5:05 ... or 5 dice with all six sides showing 5 ... or various flora with 5 (petals, seeds, leaves, ...) attached ... spelling the word "five" with a collection of "stuff."

And my poor dear photo is scoring a sucky sub-4. This is NOT going to look good on a resume!! We are not amused!

Now for those of you still reading ... I just posted to Triangle Challenge ... and it AIN'T SUBTLE. When the voting begins, I expect 10's from all you yay-hoos! GOT IT? Good !!

P.S. In all seriosity though, those of you who are familiar with my prior posts know that I believe the market is always right. If I'm getting a sucky score, it is because my photo deserved it. It was my error to submit something of a subtle nature. Sorry to rant. Just chalk it up to discouragement.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

oh my gosh... it is so weird, my five score has been stuck on 5.555 for a day or so now.... isn't that funny.....
05/13/2005 05:12:41 PM · #74
Looks like no one's interested in their scores anymore...
05/13/2005 05:17:28 PM · #75
My jaw is still on the desk, as I never figured mine to break 5.0 and presently is at 6.3737

Oddly enough, My Outside In is at 4.9583, and personally I think it's score should be switched with my Five submission.

Late April Fool's joke perhaps ??
