I just realized that I passed the 10,000 shot mark on my camera a while back. Actually, closer to 11,000 now (10,792.) I have had this particular camera since October of 2003. I had the same model, only a lemon, since June of 2003. They replaced that with this new one after repeated trips for the same problem. No problems at all since then.

How many shots do you have on your camera? I can't imagine having that many taken if I had a film camera.

22,262 since October 2003. My numbers have become inflated since september of 2004 when I started shooting sports for the news paper. I shoot several hundred shots per week more than I would have normally... 7 months of that adds up quickly...

I have about 6,000 shots from June,2004. Its not much, but much greater than what I would have taken with a film camera

Along that line, how do you guys maintain all of 'em? Do you roll 'em out to DVD or something every now and again or just keep them all on your hard drive?

BTW - 8K here...

Coming up on the big 35,000 mark... eeeep!

(Quanbeez... many cameras keep a running tally of the shots by the way they sequentially number the filenames.)

Each photo I take on my camera has a file number that has been going in sequence since I purchased the camera. You can reset the number if you want to, but I never have.

I have just recently started saving originals. I have a folder labled "originals" which is where I upload all the files that I want from my camera onto the computer. I work on my editing from that folder, saving the edited versions as a different file in a different folder, depending on the type of shot. (I have one for weddings, one for scenic...etc.) I also have a lot of subfolders for those edited shots (specific names under weddings, specific locations under scenic, etc.)

I wish I had been saving the originals all along, as I now have more options for editing, and more knowledge which would improve the final version of the shots. Every so often then, I take the "originals" folder and save it on a CD for backup or to make things more managable. I, of course, also save edited versions on cd, but only the ones I feel are worthwhile. I figure as long as I still have the original, I can also pull it back up to re-edit if there's a crash.

I just hit 1000... but then, I've only had my camera for 2 weeks... =]

I am at 14,000+ since last May 2004. I put my files in folders by the month and that the end of each month a CD or CD's with all files, originals plus post processed. For each gig, they get their own file and are not lumped in with the mothly files. Hope that makes sense.

I am 9,8xx from 30th May 2004 :) - I know the date.
I should do my 10,000 on the anniversary.
But at the rate I shoot now, it would take another few months I think.

I am 12 shots shy of 5000. In two months.

This is the reason I had to upgrade from film - taking over 2500 photos on a 2 week holiday on 35mm cost almost the same to process as a 300d would have cost to buy. I only saved about 200 of them for my album. Digital processing cost should be about one twentieth of film.

Took 10k in 9.5 months, and the shutter went out! Just got it back a couple days ago, works fine. While it was being fixed, I was borrowing my assistant's Rebel XT, now I'm convinced I can't live without upgrading for another year! Man, I want a 30D!

What's the shutter life expectancy on a 20D? I'm at about 12000 since I bought it in early December.

It's supposed to be 100,000 cycles.
