I bought a Canon PowerShot G3 and am just starting to practice with it and learn the features. Today was a beautiful sunny day, and I decided to try using the lens attachments -- I bought a wide angle lens and a 2x telephoto lens. The manual says that you cannot use the viewfinder with the adaptor tube on and you MUST use the LCD monitor.

Only problem is that the sun was so bright, I could barely see ANYTHING in the LCD. I felt like I was essentially shooting blind.

I'm used to my Canon EOS with telephoto, and love to shoot birds as they fly overhead, and when I aimed the camera up toward the sky, the LCD was a total blank. (I ultimately took off the lens and adaptor tube so I COULD use the viewfinder, but even the normal lens obstructed my view and I wasn't getting the kind of shot I can get with my SLR.)

I'm sure I will get used to the feel of the camera and using the LCD, but what are you supposed to do when you can't see a picture in the LCD because of the glare???????

Thanks for your help. Ruth :)

it seems that after looking at the camera that you own that you may be able to rig the camera up so that you could put a black sheet over your head so that you could see the screen. Thats kind of like the old school photography using the sheet over the head, but it could be effective. If that seems like you'd be drawing too much attention to yourself while taking pictures, you could just shoot and pray.

There is some sunshades that people have out there. I seen one for my old DC4800 (and they only went on the lcd size) at //members.rogers.com/nextphoto/
Do a quick search on your camera and lcd screen shade. I saw another that was in the UK.

Ruth. You see the monitor in bright sunlight with great difficulty. Seriously, I believe that Porter's has a gadget in their catalog that resembles a camera bellows and is supposed to shade the monitor from bright sunlight. Ive also heard of people making their own shades from antacid or baby powder bottles painted flat black. The biggest problem would be making sure all control can be easily accessed

Hey guys --

Following your leads that a hood is out there for sale, and following the trail of the websites you recommended, here's the website that sells the Hoodman LCD hoods: //www.hoodmanusa.com/Digital_still_cameras.htm

I thank you and my G-3 thanks you!
