I was just reading the thread in the rant section about the perceieved "American Bashing", and a thought struck me. It seemed that some of the posters got pretty hung up on whether or not they were being criticized for being American or not, but no one defined exactly what an "American" photo is. I think American and patriotic are being interchanged, and I'd like to move away from that notion.
I would like to propose that we do a challenge where we take pictures in the style of a particular photographer, perhaps an American one, just to settle that argument. Is there one style of American photography? How does it draw from/ contribute to, say, French photography? Maybe we don't all have to do American photographers. It might be interesting to see whose styles we chose to imitate, whose styles we thought best represented our own countries.
This is still a pretty fragmented idea. Tell me if I'm making sense. What do y'all think...
