AJAger -- I dig the Escher ink. I had considered doing an Escher on my back.

I have a theory on tats -- you see people living with silly Taz ink plastered on their bicep, then maybe a slightly cooler, but still out of the book image, then maybe 3 or 4 tats down the road they get something original. My thinking is go big, go creative, go personal right off the bat. Skip the book & wall stuff. Of course, I'm still working on designing mine... damn shame being an illustrator... it's never quite finished to my satisfaction...

Here's my story, see if you think it is a good reason. When I had cancer they gave me six tattoos to line up the radiation treatment. Each was an ugly green dot. The one that was most visible was larger than the rest and on my chest. When I reached my ten year mark I had the green spots tatooed over with stars as a symbol of hope.

That's the conclusion I arrived at a few weeks ago after some serious thought. The only way to stand out now is to have only the holes and markings you were born with.

-I have one on my shoulderblade. Couldn't raise my arm the rest of the day. After that it was fine.
-I have one around my ankle- the achilles tendon was pretty bad, but it was also my first tat so I was a bit of a wuss.
-I have one on the top of my right foot. The pain was awful. Ohmigosh. I could not keep my foot from involuntarily twitching. As such, the tat color isn't consistent. But you think I'm going back to get more color? Oh no.....

Oh, and Zagman, nobody said tattoos are for everyone. But those of us that piped up in this thread happen to enjoy having them.

I completely agree. I wanted to get mine, thats all. I love them and think they are a part of who I am as a person. I got my first one when I was 17 and have had it for almost 6 years now. If I could go back and do it again, I would have gotten it bigger. I've added on to it about three more times to take up my whole shoulder. I have about 16 of them and wouldn't take back any of them. They all have meaning to me and that is all that matters.

Personally, I didn't read about any such reason either.
Some things are not ment to be read or learnt. Some things are just emotive.
I didn't need a reson to do mine. I wanted to do it. That is all.
And I am happy with it and am living in peace with it for almost 7 years already.
When I get the money, I will probably get my other one. simply cause I want to.
It has a very inner and special meaning for me that is not ment to be explained or justified to anybody else.

I think I am original at many parts of my life, and it has nothing to do with me getting or not getting a tatoo.
If you don't feel like doing it, if you feel it is an un-necessary mark - that's your right and I am not thinking about arguing it with you ;-)

I have six symbols (each a little bigger than a quarter) going down the center of my spine, it hurt a little but deffinately not the worst of the ones I have. I have two on the very top of my shoulders that were horrible.

I hear the back really hurts... Then again some people told me the calf would hurt like hell. Feltt more relaxed getting tattooed than being at work.

Here is all i have right now. Sorry that it looks distorted a bit and it is a bit soft. I had to do this real quick and with no help so...

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/6845/thumb/170587.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/6845/thumb/170587.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

It was done in 6 stages more because of time than anything. I am designing more for it. I just do not know when I will get more work done. I eventually want it to go down most of my back and then up over my shoulders and down my arms some.

Hey Scuds, very rad. But this ranks high on my list of "tattoos you'll live to regret" .. then again, most tats do. :-)

P.S. I wouldn't fill it in. Looks good as is.

I wish I had such friends...
My first tattoo cost me about 600 nis (which is more or less 120$) and the one I want to do now, will cost me about 1000 nis (230$) so I can not afford it to myself currently and will have to wait till I get this amount...

Anyway, this is mine: ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/25655/thumb/170542.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/25655/thumb/170542.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
She's pretty big really. About 16cm (6.5") from the legs to the top of the wings, on my left leg.
Was pretty hard to photograph it due to it's location, so her face look a bit twisted in the photo.

Hey scuds! I'm glad you got it over and done with. I think this font is better than the ones I suggested to you on dafont.com. Looks good, but tell me, on the second picture you posted, it looks as if the ink was smeared, how come?

Depends on the color. I had some red on one part and that took ages of the tat guy scoring back and forth over the same areas to get the color in. That was a "bit" of a pain, and yeah, that part took the longest to heal.
