Hi --

I recently received a small bit of "found" money that I am going to turn into an everyday, carry-around pocket camera.

I'm not looking for something with tons of bells and whistles -- I have a camera that does that. I just need something that slips into a pocket, takes good snaps and is easy to keep on me all of the time.

I've read reviews and have some ideas, but would really like to hear owner opinions.

Case in point: today on the way back from lunch part of the road was blocked by a cherry picker truck for work on a telephone pole. The truck was surrounded by traffic cones, and some street person had sat down in front of the truck and was wearing one of the cones on his head. It was the most bizarre thing ever and I am SO ticked that I didn't go camera shopping last night like I had planned. Dang dang dang!

Thanks,
Rob

I own the Ixus 400 which I think is great for a P&S. The new model is the Ixus 700, which has recently been released or will be soon.

Also known as Elph series.

Huh? Never heard of 'Elph'. Where does that name come from?
Edit: Never mind, the same issue as with 350D aka Rebel XT.
Here's a link, by the way.

Casio Exilim cameras are the tiniest I've ever seen...well, that are a decent camera anyway. They are also called Pentax Optio S or something similar, but are basically the exact same camera. One of them was small enough to fit in a tin of Altoids but still had a 3x zoom and I think a 4mp sensor.

Another good choice for a walking around camera is the WR series by Pentax - WR stands for water resistant. You can get take all the pictures you want in the rain with no problems, and they can even be washed off in the sink (though not submerged). They are also quite tiny and have no external moving parts, even though they have a 3x optical zoom. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Water resistant cameras? Now that's cool. I considered buying an underwater-housing for my IXUS, and that little bit of plastic costs just as much as the camera itself.
For what concerns Exilim cameras, I've been disappointed by the pictures I've seen so far. The Minolta Dimage series seem fairly good though.

I have a Sony-DSC T1, which I'm very happy with.
It comes with Carl Zeiss lenses, a 5Mp sensor, 3x optical zoom and a huge screen, even though the camera's size is one of the smallest, plus some other features.
I'd suggest the upgraded model, Sony-DSC T3 (or the newer T33), that has every feature mine has and more.

The Olympus Stylus series is also water-resistant.
