Yes...to prevent myself from posting any of these pictures for the Free Challenge, I am posting them here for your viewing (pleasure?). My pictures are getting preditable so I am shifting into something else for the Free Study.

However, her face was hard to resist. Her eyes were magnets. Her quiet demeanor speaks of volumes of emotions. I was so lucky to have photographed her.

I hope you have as much fun viewing them as I had photographing her.

Holy *&+%^@(*$#%@*!!!

Glad you didn't enter. Unmatchable features across the board.

Thanx for cutting us a break.

Beautiful work.

Cheers!

These are just gorgeous... beautiful work, as usual.

I'm also entering something different this time. It's going to come out VERY low in the rankings, but I decided to enter my personal favourite instead of the best scorer of the bunch. :)

Predictable? Wouldn't have been the first word I would have used to describe these. Outstanding, that might have been it...
Seriously, I do understand the desire to branch out. It will be interesting to see what you did submit!

I think there should be a "librodo" challenge- everyone try to shoot like Manny. That would make us all better photographers.

Manny, of course, wouldn't be allowed to enter ;)

The US needs some more exotic looking people and locales. We just can't compete with Manny's perpetual vacation shots!!

My thoughts exactly. Beautiful portraits, btw!! I only wish I could take photos half as good as yours...

Thirded. I was pretty happy with my "People" entry.... then I saw Manny's (yep, you definitely have a signature style!!) and I knew it was time to go back to the drawing board. Or the lens, as the case may be...

I like #5 the best. The rope has such an interesting effect.

I agree that these are just simply fantastic. No doubt. But I also find it very exciting to anticipate what you will create in other areas - I am sure you will bring a superb new approach to anything you bring to us. Good for you for branching out!!!

I completely disagree with your statement about the US and exotic spots. We have it all here, modern, vintage, deserts, beaches, suburbs, and even rainforests...it's just a matter of getting there.
04/18/2005 10:26:51 PM · #16
A MANNY portrait is ONLY predictable owing to its superior quality, style, choice in excellent model, pose, clearity, beauty, emotion.. apart from that mate very hard to tell they are from you *winks*

I agree with what you want to do though, you have truely MASTERED the emotive portriat and now you should spread your wings and fly, Im sure whatever you submit will be seen for ALL the above reasons and more, even if they cannot say "thats a manny shot for sure".

GO ON SHOCK US ALL!!!

Yes, but where in the US can you see something like this with any kind of regularity?!?! ;)

The mark of a great photographer is the ability to recognize they need to try new things.

You are right, who could resists that face?

I marvel at all your images. Likely I will marvel at all your future ones.

Ahhem. Manny, I can understand that you want to expand your horizons, but predictable is not the a word I would use.

When one can stand in front of a breathtaking painting and tell who the artist is without ever looking at the name scribbled in the corner . . . that means the artist has successfully reached the audience and locked them in.

We are truely blessed to see your world and the people who touch you as you see them, as if through your eyes. You capture the soul of those you photograph. It would be a crime for you not to share what you do so well. : )

And Bravo to you Manny - a little photographic adventure for you? It's going to be highly intriguing to see what you come up with, and where you go. Looking forward to it.

Manny, I am very envious (ok, jealous) of your wonderful portraits! Someday I hope you will put a "how to" in the tutorials explaining how you get your great shots. I know it's a lot more than just location as some people mention. For instance, I am amazed at how you capture the warm lighting. It really makes a rich skintone to your subjects. What lenses do you use? Your photos are amazing!
