Could we please see some examples for this challenge. The rules read: "Managing the reflections, color and sharpness of a small, multi-faceted object takes skill." I know nothing about this and need to learn... thanks

also, the font situation, does it mean we can make any color we want, any font, only no effects to the words, such as shadows or gradient color?

Just open up a catalog and you will see examples :)

I just googled for "jewelry." Check any online jeweler and you'll find tons of pics.

The thing that suprised me was how many catalog pics were on a plain white background.

Can someone plese clarify non-stlyed text?

- does it not allow unique fonts?
- does it not allow bold, italics, regular etc?
- what if the font is third party and is 'Arial Italics' for example?
- if effects are things such as bold, italics, then are you allowed to have things like partial tranparency letters?

A good example is the winner of the Advertisement challenge.

I predict that there will now be at least 10 silver watches in the challenge :-)

When my wife had her Oly I found these tutorials - great place to start

Olympus Photoschool - Watches

Olympus Photoschool - a different take on Jewelry

They had another one that appears to be gone from the site that was about shooting rings that was really cool but these give you an idea where to start.

Guess I may need to pull out my old Oly C-3000 for this one. Either that or quickly buy a macro lens.
This is one of those challenges that favors a prosumer with macro built in over a DSLR with a normal lens.

Here is one of mine :

Tip : shield your object from the rest of the room because you will see all kinds of reflections otherwise. Use a bedsheet with a lamp shining through it if you don't have a softbox. Believe me, it is worth a try, it is hard to do, but you learn a lot.

Build a light tent yourself for about $10
//www.pbase.com/wlhuber/light_box

This works great. I use it all the time.

Here's proof that "What goes around, comes around."

Now I'm going to be inconvenienced for getting my wife a tiny diamond on her wedding ring.

:-(

Do you think she'd mind if I bought a huge rock for this challenge, I think I might even score some brownie points. A lot more expensive than 100 tacks!

I was going to get some cracker jacks boxes and hope for the best =).

Also thanks for the link to the light box. I just picked up stuff to make my own...was $30.00 but with 2 clamp lights and 50w flood bulbs.

I know exactly what you mean. I had to buy a whole bunch of tacks just to get my shot for that challenge.
