Hmmmm.... I see a lot of Push Pins in the challenege. Not very many tacks. I can't get them DQed, but I guess I can score them a 1, right? Should I comment, "Does not meet challenge - no tacks in picture?"
;)

Well, isn't your literal sense special. The "Semantics Police" strike again. Good thing I used a whole bunch. While you're at it, be sure to mark down the 80% or so of photos which don't use any tacks at all, but rather use push-pins. Thanks!

IMHO this site is getting a little too literal in interpreting the challenge. Why not just enjoy the pics and rate on that?
The last time I got hit with that it was for not having the exact aspect ratio that was in the challenge description for billboards. :( |
There are some Great photos out there, some with tacks and some with just a singular tack. The only reason I am being literal is it seems everyone else wants to "literally" go by the rules when they comment on or rate my images, so shall I. |
Don't be a sheep. Just because some others feel they have to be the Semantics Police doesn't mean you do. |

Well in all actuality, the description IS "Tacks?" so that leaves it open to interpretation...one tack? More than one tack? What kind of tack? So if there is anything remotely tack-related, singularly or plurally, metaphorically or literally, I'm voting on it as if it meets the challenge.
Sheesh...it's just a fun challenge inspired by the USA's income tax deadline yesterday...everyone relax and have some fun!!! :o)

Good on at least two members thinking outside the square, and putting sail boats on the challenge for "tacks" to change direction when sailing. |

I have hockey skates with the "Tacks" brand name on the side. I was almost going to use them, they're pretty beaten up & have pretty good 80's character. |

But there are no TACKS in the image. I have no choice but to give them a 1. 2 if it has a pretty sunset.

The picture with the sail boat would represent "tacks" going by number 7 of your list of possible "tacks" interpretations? (7/ The position of a vessel relative to the trim of its sails).

In some areas of the country "push pins" are actually called tacks! For some of us people growing up in South Texas...we grew up "ONLY" knowing them as tacks. Just my 2cents..... |

Most of my comments are single words. But I am getting the feeling people think it is a photoshop trick. Unfortunately it is not. |

Ok... I just love the "Reflections" image contained in your profile. Very nicely done, fantastic DOF and a great start.
Hope that helps

I scored them all last night....but going back to refine and probrably raise everyones overall scores about 1/4 to 1/2 a point. Just the way that seems to work for me. Also commenting on them now as well. |

So many comments about the pic not being in focus?? I should never try soft-focus effects |

I think soft focus, like other tricks/techniques works best for certain subjects. Black and White doesn't fly with some images, nor does sepia. Selective desat can enhance or diminish an image. Motion blur is also a hit or miss proposition.
I think, in this challenge, people are expecting images to be tack sharp. In the people challenge, you will probably see more soft focus shots.
The use of a technique to enhance an image can work. The use of a technique to use a technique usually doesn't. Course, it could just be that people aren't getting it. Wouldn't be hte first time!

of course you have a choice!
you are the one who is deciding how to rate an image, no one os forcing you to give out a "1" for an image that clearly and creatively met the challenge but not your personal narrow definition. (Note the image in question is not mine, but I get so tired of people who are so eager to slam someone else's idea.)
while it is your prerogative to vote how you please, shouldn't a "1" be reserved for really, really, really bad images?

I think I used it to enhance the point of attraction, but well let's see. |

Yeah I rarely gives ones and did not give anything lower then a 3. But only gave one 10. Most are 5-6-7's. |
