I have it, but haven't upgraded yet. I understand that you can't save the version that is being upgraded, so you can't go back.

Are you talking about the 7 or 7i upgrade?
There is an update available for the 7 (for a fee) that upgrades the camera to have many of the features of the 7i.

I'm so happy with my 7i that I can't imagine what could improve it. What does the new version have included? I'll check out Minolta at any rate. Thanks for the thread. Jerry.

quarx, did it give you an opportunity to save the old firmware?

nope, it just upgraded silently. i just made sure that I have enough battery power to last a minute. the lcd is not turn on also when the upgrade is taking place... so it is consuming less power i suppose.
i still have to do some more test to compare the previous version and the new firmware.
i do not know if minolta is offering the old firmware, in case we wanted to go back to the original version. |

I upgraded the firmware this week also and I feel the focus is faster too. I tried to find on other forums what the other "improved functionalities" were, but did not find much else. When I shoot still photos, I almost always use a tripod and remote shutter release to perform the longest exposure possible and manually focus in the magnified mode in the eyepiece. Jerry.

The Minolta Dimage 7i upgrade appears to be worthwhile (from Forum comments). I've followed the instructions for what I thought was a few minute procedure but the access light on the camera blinks for well over 15-20 minutes. I'm hesitant to try to upload the 1.11e version again as the instructions warn that interruptions in the upgrade procedure may damage the camera's CPU. Can someone give me a sense of time for this process? Minolta Technical Support led me to believe it was only a few minutes. Thanks. |

I'm facing the same problem posted by BJAY. During the upgrade the light blinks for more than 20 minutes and nothing happens. After 20/30 minutes (light was still blinking) i removed the batteries and the firmware version was still the same. I repeated the procedure several times, always reformatting the memory card and uploading again the 2 files. Where did i get wrong? Thanks |

If you are using the e version make sure your camera is european model. I have the same problem, except my camera is a j version. This is a Japanese camera. I just bought the camera and was not told it was Japanese. Can anyone tell me where to get the Japanese update? Thanks. |
