I know someone who bought a photo that was printed on a canvas. It looks like a painting & it hangs on her wall. So, what I'm wondering, is how does one go about printing a photo on a canvas? Do you have to edit the photo on photoshop to actually make it look like a painting, or does it look like a painting becuase it is printed on canvas? Thanks for all your help. :)

The photo is printed on canvas and it will look like it is painted, it can be very nice if you have the right photo to print.
Effeckt that you can do in Photoshop is not used to do this but it can be used to make some effeckt on plain paper but it will not be the same
hope this will help.

The canvas is textured and that texture comes through the image. It's akin to using the canvas texture in photoshop. Some companies that print images on canvas can add filters to the image to simulate painting.

kinko's will do it for you.
They also make HUGE enlargements. Saw a couple while I was there and was amazed at the quality of the image at that size.
I use them for mounting images onto foamboard.

To answer your question about how one goes about putting a photo onto a canvas as a painting...

I have had a split career between advertising art director (who uses Photoshop) and as a fine artist (portraits and other subjects) and have come up with a way to combine the two. I print photos turned into paintings on canvas and fine art paper. I have never been very satisfied with any one straight Photoshop filter...they just look too contrived. But after a lot of experimenting, trial and error, I have come up with a blend of several filters that fairly closely resembles my actual painting style. The advantage for me and my customers-a lot less time to 'paint' an original commission, so I can offer them original personalized art for less money. Plus, they get to see a proof in advance of placing their final order so they are much more comfortable with the process.

Ya beat me Nathan...no thanks to a phone call and mistakenly closed web page... Canvas on demand has an option for light brush strokes of paint actually applied to the print to give it more of a painted feel. Can't say how well it works but someone in that thread NathanW referred to might.

There was a photo lab in Barrington, IL that did that type of thing also and I did like the samples they had on display, pretty cool effect.

Because gaivie googled to find places to post his spam ad, then joined up specifically for that.

Putting your photo on canvas gives the texture of a painting ... but without really the "look" of a painting. I've had a couple of images printed where the goal was to look more like a painting:

This image started out as a photo and then was painted by hand (by my wife) using Corel Painter:

And this one I did with a Photoshop plugin (one of the rare times I have ever been happy with what a PS plugin has done to my images):

I don't think you need to edit pics by yourself, Many companies do it professionally for you. For example you can check this uk canvas prints company, just tell wat you need and they do it. You gonna just shot)

I had a 20x30 canvas print made by Canvas on Demand of this shot.

No special paint brush effects added. Came in printed and streched on a wood frame. Looks fantastic on the wall.

I had not had one done through Canvas on Demand but I read they copies FinerWorks.com ( or maybe it was the other way around). From my experience with FinerWorks is theytake the photo into either Corel Painter or Photoshop and paint over it digitally. The one I had done at came out beautifully but maybe some here can tell if Canvas on Demands version is the same or not. If they actually put paint on it I might be interested in trying.

Done it a number of times and how it turns out is pretty much related to the picture. I have several not only done on canvass, but wooden frames - from a reasonable distance - say, four/five feet they look like oil paintings.

Very interesting effect.

I'll have to take a picture of my T-top on my boat - they can also print photos on fiberglass and I have a picture of my boat running East Passge in a storm under the T-top when I had the hard top redone a year ago. I've also seen that same technique used on table tops - that's a really interesting approach as when the fiberglass is properly impregnated, it looks like it's printed on the top.

You can also have a custom fabric print done for things like custom ties - I don't know how color fast that is, but I've seen shirts, dresses, ties and even sheets on boats done like this.

You really want to have some fun, look up on the web for glass prints - they can make them look like stained glass.

Later,

Tom

Putting different photos on canvas would be greatly possible for any other people who wants to make some good canvas prints on their photos. Having some experienced using canvas printing website. I usually used CanvasTouch.com and i enjoyed using their good and quality prints and I was able to avail their 20% discount as a new customer.

BTW when choosing a company for assurance of quality output.

Putting photos on canvas would be easy if you know how to edit photos. It need more practice so that your product will stand out and for a better result.
