I would appreciate some honest comments on my accidential letters submission.

The challenge rule said "The shape of letters can be found in nature and in other objects. Create an interesting photograph containing something which has the shape of a letter but wasn't intended to be one."

Well i think this photograph met the challenge 100%. I'm a bit pissed off with the very low result i got. there were 432 viewers and only 279 voters?

yes i made a mistake while i was typing breaking but it was still obvious i think what the photo was referring to. i thought it was also technically a good shot. i chose a rather empty background(just the backlight) because it is a tiny piece of hair and it wouldn't make any sense with any kind of background so i wanted to keep it simple. i'm also quite upset with the comments i got so i'd appreciate some proper comment on the photo. why you think it stuck so low? anybody else unhappy with their result??

I didn't vote on the challenge, but for me, the issue is it's not a very interesting photo.

First glance from the thumbnail it looks like a nude. Perhaps that's the reason for the high number of views?

haha exactly;) i never thought of that...

Your image doesn't have any technical flaws (as far as I can see). It just doesn't stand out.

Something like:
- an eye looking at the broken hair,
- including a tendril of hair, or,
- some prop to add to the feeling of inspection - drawing the viewer to the split ....
would add more impact.

fair enough, thanks

My blunt thoughts about Y entries in general weren't too hot because I kinda feel that you can almost fall out of bed and find an accidental Y somewhere. I'm exagerating of course but I was more moved by things that might have been harder to see or find. No offense to all you Y people out there.

There's nothing wrong with your image but it isn't terribly interesting. I would assume that after seeing so many Y's this shot didn't jump out and maybe lost some steam in the shuffle.

I have left a comment - have just read the "nude" comment - v good spot!

My views during voting were twice the votes cast. Same for current "Extreme Action" challenge. Not sure you can read much into that.

:) i never thought i would read such a response. so u didn't like the letter i chose? whats wrong with y? ;)) any other letter is very easy to find. the easiest ones are actually t's, a's, s's, o's and m's... and why is a hair macro not interesting? how often do you see that? and how often do you see a cofee cup?

Maybe that's why my 'Y' wasn't well received,... :-(

in the thumbnail version, it actually looks like a minimalistic figure drawing.

Thanks leagelbeagle for the helpful critique

The macro shot is just not close enough to show any interest in the hair in my view. One could also argue that it is not a very interesting accidental letter due to the potential for set-up.

If you want to see some injustice, then check out my entry!
: )

not close enough? have you ever seen a hair split? do you know how tiny it is? and potential for set up? how come? i wasn't expecting this to be a winner or in the top ten. but i come on. there are obvious set ups that made a higher rank. i'm just confused. it is photographically set up yes but the letter is not set up, it is more natural then a door know being an r or an o.

i checked your entry and i must admit i first thought it was just a b. i tried really long to figure out what it was but couldn't manage. was an "is" right? i didn't rate it very high but since my votes never count who cares;))

Eren - it may well be as close as you can get, but it still shows no detail, texture, dimension or real form. Sorry. It's minimal, but that's about it.

I'm not too happy with my result either. I thought the letter was obvious, but going by the comments, it obviously wasn't. Would this outtake have been better (aside from the fact that it's not as sharp as it could be)?

My apology for not realizing until just now that your image was a split end. I also love macro but thought your image was twigs. Oooops! Don't kill me.

My intial though was not about the letter Y but the fact that it shows up everywhere and particularly in branches which is what I'd thought your shot was of. Perhaps the way the pix shuffled in my viewing order, I'd had a nice run of trees et al and was bored of them at the time. I'm human...these things happen.

Either way...twigs or hair, Y, Z, P, Q... I don't find the photo that interesting and we don't need to agree on that.

Lenkphotos-I gave you a 9 BTW. Beautiful image.

You're not alone, I'm curious also. It just silently went away. I'm not sad about that (quite the opposite actually), but it would be interesting to know who posted it and what happened with it.

Yes, it was.

Just curious, was it because of the content, or was it do to a break in the editing rules? I was looking forward to seeing who took it and reading the hundreds of comments I'm sure it received lol.

I find a photo of a piece of hair VERY boring. Also I don't see very closeup macro's on dirt everyday, but doesn't mean I should find them more interesting just because I don't see them often.

Your taking this all wrong, "Interesting" is an opinion. Everyone has there own, and it seems for your shot, most shared the same opinion as a low interest shot.

Meets challenge? Yes. Technically done well? Yes for the most part. Take away the challenge entry, it doesn't stand on its own.

Similar to my Abandon Buildings entry which I find technically horrid, and paying the price. We live we learn!

It met the challenge and the letter was the primary subject, which is why I gave it a 5. Looking at it as a photograph though, it's not very strong nor interesting, which is why I didn't score it any higher.
