Okay, now I'm not here to point out anyone or embarrass anyone but I just have to bring this up. I was going through the pics from the Symmetry challenge and reading the comments given by voters to the submissions and noticed a trend. There are some voters who constantly put the same comment over and over again such as:

"nice clear image, good idea" and "I like the texture of this photo."

Now....we all enjoy getting comments weather good or bad, but how about some more meaningful comments. I think the intent is to comply with some of the recommendations of commenting as often as you can, and I commend that, but let's be a bit more constructive. LOL!!!

In case anyone is interested, I started from the lowest scoring pictures and worked my way up.

well, perhaps that one thing is what strikes them the most about photos, and so they comment on the ones they think nailed that aspect?

I do agree with what you're saying K-Rob, but can you imagine what the time committment would be if one had to both comment on as many photos as they could and make those comments original for 300 photos? There would be no time for the shoot!

Even better - perhaps they copy/paste it into all the photos that is true for - or they have a list of 'nice' comments and 'not as nice' comments and they cut/paste from a word doc? LOL

Either way, I comment on about 70 a week and try to do well.

Agreed! 100%! And I wasn't getting at that either. I just found it funny to see the same comment over and over again. I would never expect anyone to post an original comment for all 200+ pics but if you're going to post, please post something useful. It just made me laugh to see the same comment being repeated by the same user and figured I'd point it out. That's all.

I personally like any comments. And I don't comment on too many, but the ones I do comment on, I say only what I mean.If I like a photo, I will tell the photographer.

Well I was going to put "You smell funny" instead on all the entries, but then I figured I'd just stick to what I thought of the Photo.

I'll often get on a certain "kick" or "obsession" and in every image, it seems like the success or almost success of that element shouts out at me. This is sometimes the case until a new photograph comes along and suddenly it will be about something else that that photo did really well or could have used some work on.

How about:

"I like it, 10"

or

"I don't like it, 1"?

Take your pick.

I've only been on DPC for a short time, but I feel that any feedback, even an "I like it" is helpful. It's encouraging to know that someone sees your work and likes it enough to tell you. I'd rather have that than no feedback at all.

Granted, constructive criticism is better to help improve one's technique, but it the clarity or lighting or layout strike me in a particular photo, I'll make a comment to that effect. Some way to tell the photographer that they are on the right track.
