After having some problems see here I changed the CCD of my A70.
It costed me 60$ here in China.
I got the camera back and I found that there was still a problem with some spots see here.
I told them to take care of this but they replied that it was the CCD. Got the camera back and surprise! The spots are exactely were they used to be.
Ok! Nevermind! I sent it back and after a quick week camera is back.
OH MY GOD! Bad vigneting (worse than before, I swear) and, guess what, spots on the same location.
I had to course them a little more and sent it back.
2 weeks already passed and the camera is still in the shop.
Man I love my A70 and I want to retire it in glory (got me 2 ribbons and couple of pics in top of A70 - 2 in top 10 and 4 in top 20)but I am kind of pi@#ed now with Canon care.
I am planning to get a dSLR this year and I am torn between 350D and D70 (or D70s, whatever) I love Canon quality and free of noise pics and I love the D70 build and feel in hands, menues, double dial etc ( I used several times a N80).
Seems that Canon will help me get a decision and buy a Nikon.
BTW I can get a body and a prime 50/1.8 for 800$. Then I can wait for another decent glass.
Just wanted to share my dissapointment... :(

I suppose it's a matter of which is more important to you, quality of service or quality of image...

Of course is image quality but starting s system with some quality doubts...
I know I am not veru objective.
I'm just unhappy. 4 weeks without camera.
I will cool down and re-judge.

Join the club. Canon still has my $7,000 1Ds. They have had it more then I have in the last year. Maybe I should start charging them rent.

Damn! It's a gourgeus day today here in South China. 25 Celsius degrees, mild sun...
And I don't have my camera!

It's been 3 weeks and no signs. I took my abandoned entry with my very first rudimentary Chinese camera (toy).

I am currently having a difficult time with Canon service. I sent in my new digital rebel XT for service last Monday. It arrived at the service center Wednesday morning and now it appears that it has been lost. I have called several times about it and was told that it normally takes 24 hours to get an item into their system but sometimes it can take as much as 72 hours but that is an absolute max. I have contacted several people in the customer service department and it looks like they have somehow misplaced it. I find it very irritating that I have to send in a new camera and even more irritating that they have wasted a whole week so far on this service visit. Had I not called them to see how the service was coming along they might never have figured out that it was missing.

I am confident that they will eventually get the camera back to me with everything working. Hopefully this will be the only trip to the service center to get this problem resolved.

I really like Canon’s product but their customer service is way below what I expect from such a major company.

I needed to have my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens serviced, brought it to Montreal's Canon service center and got it back 10 days later fixed. They phoned me to tell me it was ready for pickup. So far I've had great experience with Canon service. I guess it depends which service centre you get to deal with.

It's not their fault. Sometimes when they hit the camera with the hockey stick it goes up under the counter or the cabinets. When you call them and tell them about the camera they realize what happened and go and look for it. No harm done.

Finally I got my camera back.
No spots - everything clean and bright.
Fixed the vigneting.
Just wanted to share that I am happy I have my camera back.

Just wanted to share. My camera will be back here after its latest one month hiatus with Canon Factory Service. Prognosis: nothing wrong with my camera. Advice: send in all my lenses and my 1D Mk II with the 1Ds so that Canon can calibrate them together.

Yea, right. When cows shit Lucky Charms I will send all my equipment to sit for a month to have some high school dropout dig at it all with a crooked screwdriver.

If it is all my lenses that are out of calibration, as Canon has suggested, it would seem they have a major quality control problem going on at the moment.

I'm just curious as to what you sent in your XT for... I sent my XT in for major problems with error 01 and error 99, Just wondering if you were having a similar issue.

Finally my dear A70 it will be fixed. After fights with the Canon appointed camera repairing shop I will have my CCD fixed for free and a refund on 37euro(eq. in RMB) for my expanses on changing the old CCD.

Happy!

Got my money back. Right in time to buy a 1G CF card. But the camera has to stay 2 more months to get the CCD replaced. I miss it! :)
