I think this whole comment thing may be a bit of a trend....maybe its just a simple case of lots of people commenting. I have 32 comments on an image that is getting a 5.6 ???!!!!

As an example - the winner of the last open challenge (bored) only got 26 comments during the challenge - and my shot is (at least judging by the score) very much a middle of the road image. Shots in the 5.5 range are normally the ones that don't get commented on at all ?!

I have a similar experience, 25 comments with a 5.6 score.

It depends on the challenge and the image. I've had both happen.

Normally they go up after the first day...

I decided I would try to comment on all of the entries in this challenge. Not because I think I know all there is to know about photography, look at my first 2 scores :-(, but because I would like to get some feedback for my own. In addition, by really looking at the photos and trying to give constructive comments, I am learning things about my own photo skills. I have just finished voting.

Details: In the Beginning...

Stats: You have rated 296 of 296 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 296 images (100%) in this challenge.

I think there were a lot of good entries in this challenge. I don't know if I will be able to do this on all challenges, it took a long time to go through them all. I may pick and choose challenges in the future to comment on all photos, but most likely I will try to make comments on the top and bottom 5%.

Anyone have a suggestion as to which ones to comment on if you don't have time for them all?

This is my first contest, so does the tension get high. My average is 4.61 and my comments is 13. I cant wait to see where I rate. I know one thing there are better photos out there then mine. Are most of these contest rating like this. Also what does it mean when it say valadation on the bottom of a picture or something like that??

Welcome!

I am also pretty new here, I have entered 3 challenges. I didn't enter the "In the Beginning" challenge, but I think I'm doing OK in the "Rubber Duck" challenge. It is hard to wait until the end of voting. Your score keeps moving around. You think you are doing good for a while, then it drops. Hopefully, it eventually will go back up. When a picture says it has been validated, it means that someone may have questioned the photo's editing or authenticity. There are rules as to what kind of editing can be done. If you suspect a photo has been edited outside of the guidelines, you can request that the photo be validated by the admins here. They will look at the photo, possibly ask for the original file from the camera, and make a determination. They will either disqualify it, or they will post that the photo has been validated. Hope that helps. I also just bought the Nikon D70. There is a lot of new stuff to learn on it. I just realized that I had the White Balance set to flash instead of auto. I couldn't figure out why all of my colors were coming out wrong. Anyway good luck with the challenge!

2Shay is correct. A voter must have challenged the validity of your photo based on the appearance of a rule violation. In that case, the site council reviews it and, in your case, must have validated your image without needing to consult you.
