Interesting competition, with all the results online.
Definitely too America-centric for my taste, but there's still some great photography that we can all learn from and aspire to.
Most of the awards are given to a photographer with a series of photos in a portfolio, so it's interesting to see the consistency in a photographer's style and quality.
IMO the arts category is rather weak. :-(

Check out the magazine photographer of the year. The guy that came second had a clearly superior portfolio. Seems that the judging is somewhat politically motivated... |

Nice to see some recognition going to photography that doesn't emphasize post processing quite so much, the genuine over the flawless to paraphrase thatcloudthere.
