looks like my WORST entry EVER! I started out around 5.4, now it is at 4.0800! Talk about a drop!!! I'm disgusted at that large of a drop...just wish I could take the photo out of the challenge now.

Hi, I did not make it into this challenge, I just wanted to say that a lot of the entries are really great. It was refreshing after the bored challege, and even thought a lot of the subject matter is the same the pictures have much more individuality this time. I only rated a few below a 5 had a whole bunch on 8's and 9's, I'm going to go back to do my comments now.!

Note to self: Only submit if you have a good idea, and dont submit just to be in a challenge.

My worst score up till now, between 4.5 and 4.3

That is my philosophy exactly, which I didn't follow either.
Why, why, why?

4.98 (can't seem to break 5)

Just so everyone knows next time I say this. someone please reach through the computer and slap the hell out of me. This is very time consuming.

haha... me too =) It's difficult trying to write meaningful comments on 280 photos... but I did get several great responses from those I left comments to, so it's worth it.

I have noticed that when I first voted through I did judge some photos based on their content instead of technicalities... they fit the competition, I just didn't like how they depicted it. So I went back and bumped many people up. I think commenting makes you realize that some of those photos you scored low, was just because of personal taste instead of composition, tones, sharpness, etc - which it should be judged on because this is a photo contest. When I went through some of my low scorers I had nothing bad to say about the technical details of their photograph, I realized it was just my taste getting in the way so I increased their scores and left positive feedback. Granted, if the photo does not match the challenge then there should be some points knocked off... because what's the point of entering a "challenge."

Hopefully within the next couple of days I will have comments on every photo... I just didn't realize how time consuming this is =)

What's the harm. You don't lose any money and no one is going to look down on you for trying. Besides, I think it's good practice. If you ever take pictures for money your not always going to be 100% happy with the outcome. I think you got to try to work with what you got sometimes and try to make the best out of it.

I have done the same thing and went back and bumped some up. A lot of good photos in this challenge. Everytime I enter I think I have a real good photo but then I start voting and realize how much I suck.

and it makes grading on the curve easier if we have some one to dump on ;)
it's good to have both head & a tail of a normal distribution ...

Well I have already commented on every photo in the challenge. I left a comment stating what I was doing that I would come back for further comment. So those have already been counted. I will get there. It will be a milestone for me. I have noticed the more I comment the better I am a taking a photo. It helps me.

My approach is similar: only submit if you have an image you're happy with. One that you would be proud to show a total stranger. If I think the stranger would smile or ask to buy a copy, then I submit. If I think the stranger would look at me funny and run away... eh, well they ALL do that. ;-)

You will always have both outcomes no matter how happy you are with it. That's just life. Everyone has different taste which is a good thing.
