I want to see rats, ferrets, hampsters, skunks, turtles, whatever you have! As long as it's not a dog or a cat. :)

I'll start off with some pictures of Gozu, my ferret, from earlier today.

Ouuu!! Another fuzzie lover! I have got tons of fuzz butt (hence my name) pictures, but these are the ones I have in my portfolio:

We've also got 3 snakes, an iguana, a leopard gecko, 2 rats, 6 gerbils, and 2 rabbits. Then there are the 8 dogs and 2 cats. Unfortunately, I don't have many pics of those... except the dogs and cats, but I do have one of the Iggy:

I'll have to upload a couple of my ferret action shots for ya.

Here's Scout, the parakeet. He has a friend, Roxy, but I haven't gotten any pictures of her yet.

I'd love to have a ferret someday, but we're in California, and we are law-abiding citizens. Not to mention that we rent our home, too, and the landlord could barely be talked into letting us have parakeets. He'd never go for ferrets.

Besides, are ferrets baby-friendly? We also have a baby.

I'm in CA too, not so law abiding. :) But honestly, when I got him, I was under the impression you could own them. I just thought you couldn't purchase them in CA. Oh well, I love him.

Baby friendly? Hmm. There are some ferrets that aren't trained very well, and have a tendancy to nip. But most don't. I would say probably not baby friendnly, though. My ferret, as well as all that I know of, have a foot fettish, as he likes to try and take my socks off of me, and occasionly grabs a little too far into the sock and gets my toes, but other than that, he a good guy. Never bitten me or anything. But yeah, I'd say not for the babies. But definitely consider one once the kid's a little older.

I have to disagree. I have 4 children, my oldest being 5 and have had ferrets for 7 years. My children all grew up with the fur kids. Obviously, you wouldn't leave the ferret loose, unattended with a baby, but you shouldn't do that with any animal and small child. We also limited the rooms our ferrets have access to during play time. They aren't allowed in the bedrooms at all. They are kept in their cages the rest of the time. I found, the biggest pain in the tush was keeping the ferrets from stealing the kids' bottles, pacifiers and toys. The little theives kept dragging them off and hiding them in obscure places. My kids were allowed to "pet" the ferrets when they were very little. As they got older, they were allowed to hold them. The age I let them do that varied by their maturity level. My oldest daughter, Emmaline, was holding them by 18 months whereas my son, Christian, didn't get to until he was 2 1/2. I actually have some pictures of them holding the ferrets... and a couple of Emmy playing with them (giving them rides on a towel she drug across the floor). Now don't get me wrong, I don't recommend them for every family with small children. They DO play a little rough sometimes. They CAN be trained not to. We've also had the foot commandos, but we just made sure everyone had their shoes on when the ferrets were out. If you ever do get a ferret, I recommend going to a shelter, particularly because you have small children. If you were to buy a kit (baby) from a pet store, they would need nip training, etc. However, a good shelter would help you pick out the ferret whose temperment best suits your household. They are also there for the life of the ferret should you need to return it... and are a wealth of information they are just dying to share with you on their care. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM and I can send you a link to a fairly comprehensive list of ferret shelters/rescues across the US. There are also many good groups on Yahoo, MSN, etc that you can join to learn about carpet sharks.
