I was just wondering. I am currently a member of another site that very few people actually sell images, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions of this site before i join.

I've only sold one. Getting lots of hits though. I don't have much to choose from in the mean time. I think some people actually print of the 640px wide pictures and use those - those who are not really concerned with image quality - and you'd be surprised how many who really aren't.

I was wondering mainly because the storage space is limited here. I joined the other site because you get 100mb of storage, but it doesn't sell prints only digital file downloads. I know 25 a year is not a lot but I'm a college student and that means a lot to me. thanks for your feedback.

I don't think full-sized images submitted for sale count against your storage space. You'd have to check into that for sure though.

You're correct, only the display image (max 150k) counts against your storage limits. Otherwise you'd only be able to fit about 6 prints for sale :-)

That's what I was afraid of. I was thinking it would be a better deal at the other place, but once again I think I was mistaken. Thanks for all the great input. Does anyone know a way to tell how many prints this site sells on average (day, month, etc.)

Your welcome. I sold there 115$ already, 60$ (and counting) only this month. It's really a good thing if you have many good stock photo.

I don't sell prints here yet, but have been monitoring it for a while. There is no limit on how many, or how big, prints a member can offer. The images for prints are not included in the limit on size of youp portfolio.

The quality of dpc prints in really top notch, and the cost is very reasonable. But don't make the mistake of thinking that the members here are a hotbed of print buyers. They are more towards being print sellers. If you can generate traffic and your shots are interesting, DPCPrints can supply a convienient interface for sales and the quality to make your customers happy.

Just my two cents.

You hit the nail right on the head there Harvey, I think if you are serious about selling prints you have to generate traffic, your own website, links, links, and more links! and of course have lots of choice, finally the quality has to be there.
Good answer to a good question,
Paul.

I get half a dozen hits per day but still only one sale. I guess my work must lack quality.

I have to disagree a bit. I think one of the biggest benefits (at least for me) is that DPCPrints has brought me steady traffic without my own advertising. Of the 27 occasions that someone has purchased prints from me, less than half have been through my own url, which means someone else is bringin' 'em in for me.

Nothing wrong with your work Owen, maybe a link in your profile could help? half a dozen is not a lot of publicity.

What I want to know is who sets the price for the print and how much (percentage wise) do you receive after DPC takes their cut?
03/25/2005 02:28:00 PM · #16
You set the price for the print. You get 75% of the profit if it's bought through your exact url (ie. for me, //mk.dpcprints.com) and 50% if it's through someone else's. You also get 25% of the profit if someone visits the site through your url and then ends up buying from another photographer.

If you'd like other information about dpcprints, there is a help section here.
