Well, I started out at the close of that 1st hour with roughly a 5.4, but it dived down to around a 4.9 by the next. Youch!

i got hit for 3 straight 1s ( ithink) one of them even had the nerve to leave a comment to him i salute at least he backed it up.
Started at 5.7 down to a 4.6 right now after 20 votes 1 comment. |

yea I hate it when people don't comment it and give a bad score. if it's so bad it must be easy to write down more then one reason why it is bad. I think people here just browse and score down to get their stuff up, and also I think on this website people go for one "standard" style, and anything that is different immediatly is scored low.

Are you supposed to give a 1 to the picture, if you find absolutely nothing surreal in it?
If you are, there will be lots of them.

I suppose it is to be expected, but it's simply extraordinary how many of these entries show NO comprehension of what "surrealism" is, at least in the artistic sense. "Sur" as a prefix = "more than" or "over". "Surrealism" = "more than real". Abstraction is NOT surrealism, in and of itself. Surrealism, properly applied as a descriptive to art, which photographs are a category of, refers to a sort of a dream state, to the juxtaposition of incongruous objects/images, to the conjuring of an alternate reality from the well of the unconscious.
On the plus side, there are a good number of excellent, truly surreal entries in this competition. But I'm taking a hard line on this, and this will certainly be the lowest average vote I've given out, by far. IMO a SIGNIFICANT number of these images utterly miss the point.
But then, I'm just one man, and one vote.

Exactly :) However, I do feel that there are quite a few images in this challenge that show SURREALISM I have found myself voting quite high and I have certainly NOT given any 1s.
mines crept up a bit but nothing to jump about. |

I would just like to make it known that I am well aware of the fact that my submission to this challenge is one that will join the ranks of 4's and 5's, a picture that does no credit to me or to this site, and will try the patience of voters. Mine is the sort of picture that will make people get sick of looking at crappy submissions.
I apologize for taking and submitting a crappy picture. If I could take it back, I would >_<

I do not think you need to apologize, this is a learning experience ... we do learn from the good pictures, but also from the bad ones. And we all have good and bad pictures ... so cheer up and keep trying :)) |

Thanks, I guess I just needed to vent a bit. Finals this week = no time to take good pictures = I take bad pictures instead. Fortunately, I have turned off the "show scores" option, so they cannot possibly depress me ^_^ |

Dali said that the difference between he and the other surrealists was that he was a surrealist. There are at least two different methods that have been employed in achieving a surrealistic image. One is by simply painting an imagined or dreamt unreal juxtaposition and the second is finding through an automatism such as looking at a random image, something that is not logically accepted by the conscious mind but has meaning to the unconscious.
I think many here will only judge surrealism as being the imitation of one of the surrealistic masters. As that does not come from the unconscious mind, no surrealistic master would accept such a picture as surrealistic. |

Yes beauty defintly is not in the eye of the beholder on this site..... Here are a few shots that have won over the last month and a half

| the more I voted , the more I began to notice photos not fitting the theme. Extra bright skys and abstracts are not surreal. Its the paranormal shots that will fare well. |
