Paul, can we twist your arm and get you on board? You seem to have such abundant knowledge that's needed.

I'm trying to chip in where I can ... I'm not really in a position to make any specific commitments right now -- maybe as this project takes shape I'll be better able to assess if there's a regular role I can take on.

In the meantime, one of my best talents is telling other people how they should do things : )

I have experience with non-profits, and the social dynamics which often overwhelm the original goals ... I'd love to see one which could avoid those -- but it ain't easy! Remember if you get into a project like this, you're into it for a minimum of 3-5 years of a lot of work and no money ...

Not a contest, competition or raffle to give people with decent equipment "dream" equipment...

We seek to be a non-profit organization, to better people's lives... or something like that...

First of all I never said so people can update to get dream equipment!
I have read many of posts in the forums that a DSLR is a dream camera!
What I did say was that some people here update thier camera when ever something new comes out.
Why not buy one from a member who is upgrading to the new toys instead of buying it from a stranger on EBAY was my thought that is all.
The only thing I thought the member would get is a quick and easy sale of their old camera to the group of people that kicked in few bucks.

That makes sense, to have DPC members inform "us" of any camera sales they may be conducting on ebay or other like sites, if they wish....

WOW...how far this conversation has gone since I left for work!!
First off, I think our original idea was to build on the incredible compassion of the members here and turn it into something a little more lasting than one day of giving. I believe this to be a chance to make an actual difference in the communities in which we live. To share a common passion with people who may otherwise not be able to participate. That is my main drive. To others who have graciously offered to sit on a governing board that may differ slightly. That is what a mandate and mission statement will hash out.
I would like to make it clear though that this was in no way started as a way to award each other for the top placing entry in any given challenge. If that is the direction this takes, then I will excuse myself from any further dealings.
Rex, sorry I haven't responded to you yet. I had to go to work and have been reading emails since I got home! I'll pm later this evening.
Finally I'd just like to say that there is a need for this sort of organization. You need not look any further than your own backyard, and if done properly will have a positive effect on a great number of people. It does however take time to organize, establish a mandate, and put into action. This is not an overnight deal....there is a long road ahead for whomever agrees to participate and I would like people to keep that in mind before jumping in.
Dave.
