Lake Alatoona at sunset. PS and Neat imaged, tried not to overdo it but I'm not necessarily objective. Thoughts and suggestions desired.

Please don't take this as a bubble burstin, but sunsets are probably the most over done shot in photography. Everyone has one or two or three... In order to make one pop, you need something spectacular to go with it. An amazing city skyline, an awesome reflection in a large body of water. Something/someone in the forground that catches your eye. Spectacular cloud formations, something to make it pop, otherwise it comes of as more of a study type of shot... Something that many won't look at twice...

Edited to add: I realized as I hit [post] that jmsetzler said it better in another thread, but he was talkin' about landscapes. Without a subject, it's just trees and stuff...

A Sequoia or Mt. Hood perhaps ;-)

I have to agree with TooCool but I want to add that you did a wonderful job on the sunset that you had access too. And as stated by TooCool if you would of had the opportunity to have a subject in the foreground to add more depth or interest to the sunset it would of been great.
For a first attempt at a sunset, you did a good job!

Kind of like this one I took the other day. I took it from the dock and it made a good sunset. But I wish I would of taken it from behind the dock with a person on it fishing or watching the sunset it would of been better. As is, even though I like it, it's just another sunset.

Heh there was a dock in front of me and I took a picture of a guy holding his fish up in front of the sunset, but I was in such a hurry to take the picture that I forgot and metered on him, sunset looked like a white atomic fireball on the horizon. Ah well..

It don't have to be all that... Just somethin' for your eye to rest on. It could be as simple as a couple holdin' hands. Or even simpler, footprints on a beach...

Very nice warm colors. The picture brings a sense of peace to me. I like it as it is. An extra accent could change the atmosphere of the picture and I agree with TooCool, it could make it more interesting or intriguing. I am not sure if I would like it better - it would depend on the accent.

This is one of my last evening shots.

I wonder what TooCool would say about it?

Cool would say somethin' like this... You got some fantastic leading lines that approach but never touch the true subject of this shot. Yes you have awesome colors, yes you have awesome lines, yes you have awesome textures, but they all lead your eye to that one person standin' on the beach at sunset and damn it, I wanna be there with 'em...

I know it's dull, I know it doesn't have anything meaningfull, but damn the sky was beautifull this late afternoon!
Tweaked the blue a little, then burned and dodged a little!.
That's an almost out of the camera shot!

i'd suggest trying to reach a higher vantage point and eliminating the water in your shot.. it doesn't add much, and if you could reduce the strong presence of the trees here, it might help things out. not sure, but just my 2 cents.

I took one tonight as well..pretty to look at for a time, but needs a something extra to make it special..

It was a pleasant sky for a time tonight, now we are back to grey skies and more snow..

last couple of years, when at the cottage, i race out every clear or partially clear evening & try to take a decent pic of the sunset - sitting in the sand battling the bugs --
out of probably several hundred this is my best -so far-
if the boat was just a bit faster i could have had it in the sun
maybe next year ....

(now i get to see if i have this thumbnail thing figuered out ...)

I just love that time of night when everything is so calm.

Your picture is great, it reminds me of one I entered in a challenge a while ago. Here it is...
