Hi all,
I could really need some help in English. Something I just can't find anywhere.
Could you guys please tell me the meaning of the expression Glossed over?
Unfortunately I don't have an entire sentence. all I know is this is some kind of expression, and not just a word to word translation.

i think its when you avoid going into details and talk very basic of a certain subject. someone correct me if im wrong.

Gloss Over
Make attractive or acceptable by deception or superficial treatment. For example, His resumé glossed over his lack of experience, or She tried to gloss over the mistake by insisting it would make no difference. [Mid-1600s]
v 1: treat hurriedly or avoid dealing with properly [syn: skate over, smooth over, slur over, skimp over] 2: cover up a misdemeanor, fault, or error; "Let's not whitewash the crimes of Stalin"; "She tried to gloss over her mistakes" [syn: whitewash, sleek over, hush up]

If something has been glossed over by someone it means that they have made it sound better than it is by giving a very basic but inaccurate (or untruthful) description of it.

| The main coloquial use is one when refers to something with a dismissive attitude. Essentially a disguise for ineptitude. |

if someone enters a colour foto in the adam ansel challenge
it probably wont get glossed over. lol

The simplest way to put it is that to "gloss over" something is to minimize it. Instead of addressing the problem, you put a coat of "pretty paint" on it and act like it has gone away.

Candy coated, like perhaps I would tell my 4 year old not to touch the camera because it will bite... cover up the real reasoning..
